Battle Royale

I’ve been thinking about this for quite a while and have finally been bothered enough to make a thread about it. For those of you not familiar with the Battle Royale book/movie/manga the basic premise is that one class of 9th graders are selected at random to participate in The Program. The Program being a reality show where the class is kidnapped, marooned on an island and pitted against one another in a battle to the death where only one can survive.

Now as a concept for a RP I thought this would be interesting, considering it is going to be highly unlikely that your character will make it all the way. Muhahahaha. Yes I am evil. Also, I wanted to set it in the two kinds universe because I like the races and prejudices they have against one another.

Character

Now then for making your character I have provided you with a nice little form to fill in. Also I urge you to make at least 2 characters, on of either sex to make up the numbers of the class. The more characters we have the more we can kill. I will also be controlling some NPCs.

Name:
Race: (Human, Keidran, Bastin)
Gender:
Appearance: (height, hair/fur colour, build etc.)
Background:
Special item: (see below)
Vices: (weaknesses)
Virtues: (strengths)

Special Item: Each character has a special item with them. Something that is linked to their character in some way. As the Kid’s all thought they are going on a school trip then bring something they would bring with them for that. It also must fit inside their rucksack.

To play or not to play?

There are two kinds of people in “The Program” those who play the game and those who don’t. Almost all the characters will not be playing the game, at first at least. They don’t want to kill their classmates, why would they? How can they, they are friends…Aren’t they? They will be trying to find another way of getting off the island with everyone else still alive.

There will however be a few who will play. They don’t care about anyone else, they have accepted that the only way to get off the island is to kill everyone else and win The Program

To spice things up, I will be PM’ing people during the RP to tell them whether or not they are a playing character or not. Those who are playing can make it very obvious they are if they want to, or be sneaky about it, I don’t mind. Just as long as they get to the killing. ;)

Also the closer it gets to the end of The Program the more likely other characters will be to turning against their friends in a bid to be the one survivor.

Actions

Now then, Killing is going to happen. Oh yes it is. But you won’t be able to just kill someone off instantly, doing things such as pushing them or slapping them is fair enough but with kill you are going to have to pass it through me. So can we have it being worded such as “A man shot at girl” rather then “and man shot girl and she died”. :D

This goes for the NPC’s as well as player characters.

The Program

The Program takes place on an abandoned island. All the residents have been kicked out of their homes with no warning. All their possessions have been left behind, and you can find all manner of stuff laying around.

At the beginning of The Program the kids are fitted with electronic collars which not only look nice but have a deadly function. Once activated there is a 10 second fuse then KABOOM! They blow your head clean off your body. Teehehe. What sets these off you wonder? Well at the beginning of the morning the host of The Program announces Danger Zones. These are grid references, if you happen to be within this grid reference when it becomes a Danger Zone your collar will be activated.

It can also be activated if you try and take it off and don’t even consider trying to break it in any way. It’s shock proof, water proof and just about anything proof.

After you have your collar. You’ll be given your school rucksack, and another rucksack. Inside the rucksack you will find, 3 days worth of rations and water, some blankets to sleep on, a map of the island, a pen to mark the Danger Zones on the map with and your designated weapon for the duration of the show.

The Program last for a total of 3 days with more and more Danger Zones being added until everyone who is left is forced into the same grid reference. If there is no winner by the end of the 3 days all remaining collars will be activated.

I will update a map in this thread so people can keep up with the Danger Zones.

Sexy map editting by Kitten :P

Now THIS sounds like fun. I hope I get to be one of the people playing from the beginning. I enjoy being a sneaky [censored]!

Name: Ereshkigal
Race: Bastin
Gender: Female (I'm gonna try something new.)
Appearance: About 5'6", very dark tan fur, and yellow eyes. Her hair is long, and usually well taken care of.
Background: She has had an unhealthy obsession with tactics and battle ever sense she was very little. She has been studying battle styles and tactics for most of her life, with hopes of becoming a tactician in the Basitan army. She transfered to the mainland to study the tactics of humans and Keidran as an exchange student. She made few friends, and those she did make have to put up with her less than stellar personality.
Special item: An army helmet her father gave her before she left.
Vices: She is fairly paranoid, and never did trust most of her classmates. Prefers the company of a good book, or a feud between "factions" of the class. Has a weakness for men that show a lot of strength.
Virtues: Has a firm grasp of tactics and battle in general. Very survivalist. Is not afraid to set traps, and is quite good at passing the buck and shifting blame. Knows enough hand-to-hand combat to defend herself against someone that doesn't know some form of martial art.

I figure this character wouldn't survive too easily in the beginning, but will do well towards the end. (If she makes that far.) Hope this works. I'll create another, more friendly character later. This sounds like fun.

She seems like a good contender. A Loner, a military obsessive and a Bastin. Bastins have shown much promise in previous episodes of The Program recording more wins then any of the other races. Interestingly though, with her inability to get along with her class mates normally, how well could she really hide her intentions...hmmm.

Later on I will be doing TV show related things for this such as looking at highlights of the show, analysis of the contenders and betting odds. You got a free bit od analysis there just coz I wanted to :P

Sweet Buddha in heaven YES! I read the original book, and I need to get in on this right now! I hope I don’t get the spoon.

Name: Garret

Race: Keidran, (Tiger)

Gender: Male

Appearance:
5'11 in height and 215 lbs. His hair is a dull red color, and his eyes a fierce yellow. He has a relatively athletic frame, though there is some fat on him. His built rather wide in the shoulders and arms, and his legs are thick and meaty. He had poor eyes, but contacts prevent most of those problems, he keeps a spare pair of glasses with him. He has a tendency of smile too often

Background:
Garret’s a pretty normal kid, in a way. Sort of. No, I guess he isn’t. he’s fiercely independent, smart, and strong. Besides that he’s into stupid and/or nerdy things. Comics, books, bad Fanfiction, video games, computers, theoretical physics, you name it, he likes it.

Because of that, he was picked on a bit as a little kid. That didn’t last to long, given his size and a fair amount of hubris. He became very good at defending himself in fights like that, and even better at discouraging fights like that with a slightly psychotic façade. He smiles a lot now and has a tendency to see nearly everything as funny.

Consequently, this has caused people around him to decide he is, “Crazy”

Special item: An iPhone. Of course there’s no cell phone reception on the island, or any internet for that matter, but it has some cool songs!

Vices: Independent to the point of folly, Arrogant, Weird, condescending, poor vision

Virtues: Wrestling, training. Strong, Pragmatic, naturally camouflaged fur. A lot of esoteric knowledge

Oh yeah, I remember seeing something like this before.
I probably won't join, unless I die really near the beginning.

Name: Dante Fernane
Race: Grizzly Bear Keidran
Gender: Male
Appearance: 7'6" tall, 440 lbs, brown-black fur, extremely muscular build.
Background: Dante is obsessed with body building, in no way normal for a student. He is extremely tall (he is a bear though) and strong. He loves technology but has an even deeper love for body building. He has never been picked on by bullies, being perceived as too big a threat to their health (yes there's a pun there).
Special item: His 100 lbs dumbells which he can lift easily and can easily be used as weapons.
Vices: Independent to the point of stupidty, looks incredibly mean even though he isn't.
Virtues: strenght, height advantage, intelligence, survivalist instinct

Hows that Nuff?

Ok I've only a few issues with this character, nothing major. Firstly he is a little tall, I know thats part of his character but from my knowledge all the characters are around 15 and a 6'2" 15 year old is a bit of a stretch. Maybe just 6' as that is still darn tall for that age group.

Also I know people want to give thier characters a bit of an edge, but really there is no need. It's not about strength so much, so could you maybe limit him 2 one of the martial arts you suggested :P

other then that tis Approved

You have suffered with simular problems to TheSpiffman but on a more extreme level. 7'6" holy mother of god thats a bit OTT to say the least. I know bears are big but that is way to much. Again these kids are about 15 and I can't find it even remotely feasable for a 15 year old to be over a foot taller then me, and I ain't a short arse.

I have no problem with him being someone obseesed with his body, but again at that age it's not likely he'd be to much into bodybuilding, your not really meant to go to the gym before your 18 so... maybe make him a sports star or something.

lastly is the special items. I highly doubt that someone would take 2 100lb dumbells on a school trip with them. thats 200lb's of stuff in a school rucksack, and it amounts to just under half our kid's weight.

approvement is pending on this bearing some changes.

*************************************************************

I don't want any of you to feel you have to give your kid some kind pyhsical or martial art advantage in this RP to be able to survive or be able to compete. Martial arts amounts to nothing if someone shoots you in the face anyhow.

I just want some normal kids thrown into a very un-normal situation, just like the book/movie/manga

Everything is ok with exception to him having a weapon. I don't like the idea of them bring weapons with them as they will all be given stuff at the beginning of The Program. He could however bring it if he wanted to show the others, but I wouldn't think he'd bring it loaded and with ammo, thats insane he could hurt someone :P. You can keep the gun if it is unloaded.

He's a very big lad isn't he, oh well it'll make it easier for the others to spot him at least the giant freak of nature.

Approved with changes

He Nuff, I has some questions. I don't know anything about Battle Royal beyond what is already in this thread.

How big is the island, and how large are the zones?
If we choose a gun for our weapon, will we have "unlimited" ammo? As in, will we have at least enough to be able to shoot everyone at least twice? Because, if you choose a gun like a revolver, if you don't get extra ammo, it is completely useless after the sixth shot.
Do the houses have any weaponry in them? (Except stuff like kitchen knives, that's kinda a given. Like if there are maybe some shot guns.)
Are the zones marked in some way, or do we have to get lucky enough to not wander into a "death zone"?
Can we ask for ANY weapon?
Will we get a chance to escape a death zone after the announcement, or are we just screwed if we are in one when that happens? I ask in case I am on or near the border between two zones when it happens.
And finally, can we have a better map?

That's a lot of questions....

I believe it is 10 kilometers from on side to the other.

You do not choose your weapon. Yopu are randomly given your bag and you get what you are given. They provide a box of ammo normally enough to reload a fair amount of times.

Probably not. They weren't any in the movie but I muight chuick in a few interesting finds along the way *cough* chainsaw *cough*

The contestants are provided with a map and a marker pen to mark on where the danger zones are. They also have a compass to help them get their bearings. They have to rely on there navigation skills. The viewers always find it amusing when a contestant get their head blown off because they are lost.

You have to combine the used of the map, landmarks and compass to figure it out for yourelf. Everyone in the move does it fine so i don't expect to be killing anyone that way anyways. It's more to force the contestants towards one another.

Kilroywuzheere wrote:

You don't ask, they are force upon you. not all weapons are violent. Some people may end up with a scanner (which tracks the collars), binoculars, a megaphone and the classic saucepan lid (the wepon of Battle Royale hero Shuuya).

When they annouce the Danger Zones they annouce a time when it goes active. Like I said they don't want to kill them all that way, doesn't make good TV ;).

I'll get the offical BR map uploaded, though it is in Japanese so I'll have to tell you what the landmarks are when i get home and can get my manga.

Phew... hope that answered all your questions
