In my school, since I can't play any heavy-duty games ( 8) ), I just play either the original Counterstrike or Tremulous.

In order of recommandation:
F.E.A.R Combat [Fantastic for a free game.]
Quake II or III
Starcraft
Unreal Tournament
Half Life 2 Deathmatch
Counter Strike
Team Fortress Classic or 2 [Depends on how many guys you're bringing over.]
Company Of Heroes
Call of Duty 4
Battlefield series [Not as good as the others, but it's lots of fun anyway.]
DotA [I hate this 'game'. Don't play it! Xp]

Starcraft
Diablo II
Warcraft 3

And then there are of course the Half-life mods:
Sven Co-op
Science and Industry
Natural Selection
Pirates, Vikings and Knights

I've heard that Serious Sam co-op is the ultimate LAN game, but I've never tried it though.

I really enjoy playing Unreal Tournament. Great for killing time.

have to say one of the best games for L:An is still Red Alert 2. One of the most perfect RTS's ever, not to mention it's 7 years old so will run on lamost anything. Company of heroes is also a good call. Dawn of War is well worth trying out. HL2 mods Couter strike, Day of Defeat and the awesomeness of Team Fortress 2 are highly recommened. As is Zombie Panic. For a good bit of racing action try of Flatout 2 and Track Mania are great. UT 2004 is the best UT for LAN's imo, plays well on low spec PC's and hasn't really been improved on with more recent versions of the game.

heh I'm off to a LAN this weekend in fact, will be playing most of them :D

Oh! You could try Natural Selection. It's a mod. And you download this other program, Steam, so you can play HalfLife mulitiplayer online...

I'll post links later.

I used to play specialists and natural selection, specialists was amazing, except for the curve, and that there were people so unnaturally good with kung fu and sword fighting that i thought they might be cheating, but there really is a kick that does 75 damage that i cant figure out how to do. Natural selection's fun and really easy to get into but at a certain point on some maps its just one team spawn camping the other while they wait for the victimized team's hive/Command center to die, or the marines have so many friggen turrets that the command center can't even be reached, or all the aliens make onos's. Usually not a problem though, and if it is...well, its LAN, they're in choking distance.
