I currently have two ideas: A dot. hack style one and a matrix style one. Both of which I want to see if there's any interest, then get Yash's approval, then set about making a storyline.

In the dot.hack one, players will (definitely) start out as level 1, having just started the game for the first time. We'll be using the G.U. edition, too, 'cause I think it creates a more "In-depth" feel. the story will have to take place in a different timeframe than the movies, series or videogame, and none of the famed characters will make an entrance. Players will not be allowed to be hackers until specially organized through the GM, and they cannot start as such (seriously, if you could hack a system, would you start out as a level 1 or a level 999?)

in the matrix one, the players have more of a free-style form of combative play. They may choose to be a Zion born operator, a human rescued from the system, a renegade program or even an agent (select few, must contact GM first)

Since Neo sacrificed himself in the end to only wipe out the Smith crises, the war against Zion can continue, leaving the characters of the movies behind as legends to be referred to ("He moved as fast as Neo the Great!)

since players will be able to play both sides of the net, the RP will contain a consistently less amount of GM interference as the dot.hack one, reduced to monitoring the activity of the agents and humans (to keep the RP rules steady), playing as the "Real world" drones (the non-agent bots), and occasionally throwing in a common enemy for everyone to fight.

Cool! I vote .hack! I just love the entire series. And I've never seen the Matrix... So, I would probably only join the end result of this if it was .hack only.

That's my two bits. .hack all the way.

"Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?"

(as I listen to 'Clubbed to Death' from that scene)

I'd go with .hack, as it would be just as interesting (if not more so), and it would probably be easier to suppress god-modders.

I would think that you should do your own story. :)

Same. With all the characters, preferably, baseline Human / whatever race it features.

That way teamwork is actually worth the effort, instead of just soloing the mooks like Mr. Smith or some other action flick hero.
