The Cruel World that is Windows.

I'm fed up, Another Trojan, though it may be my first on this laptop, it's still not been a full year of owning it, and it's got a virus that is terrorizing my internet, I'm not even sure how I managed to coax it into letting me post this message.

Tomorrow, I will have my good friend over to Install Linux Mint (I think) and see if we can get the modem to computer wireless working.

If we can, good, if not, I hope I can find a long Ethernet, and persuade my father to drill a few holes in the floor, or I'll just move the Laptop downstairs.

I hate to sound condescending but... the only time I've ever gotten a virus was though blatant idiocy on my part. Seriously, if you try it's not that hard to keep your comp clean. =/

Beyond that, have a happy switch. I might consider linux if A) games ran on it and B) I could ever find working wifi drivers.

Yeah, this time it was human stupidity, but the other times....well...that was the family computer, and my father, who thinks he is computer God, is a complete moron on technology.

But I'm just tired of constantly having to deal with small virus attacks, and this happens... Maybe I shouldn't down load all that....eh... educational video and photo information

I've never had terrible wifi problems with my linux laptop, though I'll admit that I did pick out the wireless card after making sure that it had working drivers.

Looks like the A45 uses a standard Atheros card (same chipset as mine), and the madwifi drivers are pretty solid. Don't know if that's your particular variety of Satellite, though.

Good luck on the switch and post if you have any problems. You never know when one of us might have run across something that helps.

For the record, I'm in DK's camp -- I got caught once because I didn't realize it was set to open files by content rather than by extension, so the file, which I knew was viral, got executed instead of opened by my editor. Otherwise I "live dangerously." I haven't found an antivirus that I care for, so I don't use one. Got a really nice firewall though (not as nice as iptables, but we don't get everything we want).

Spybot Search And Destroy and AVG are pretty good at virus deleting/deflecting.
Havn't gotten one for a looong time.
I'm using a regular computer though so it might be different for your laptop.
And Black_Elite, don't download those..."Edumacational Videos" If they're the problem.
(Also, I'm a moron on technology too, my brother is a wiz though.)

That's basically what happened to me. I had downloaded something from limewire, and normally I have my AV check files like that but I didn't bother this one time, and thus got a virus. @_@ But that's the only time I can actually recall in my history of owning a computer.

For the Record, this time it was not Educational Videos, but Rogue Software,

Tad bit embarrassing none-the-less.
