Hey guys. Toms work has inspired me to get back into drawing after 5-6 years without, and I would really like people to critique my work. I plan on doing a piece once a day at least. So if you guys got any tips, or if you just want to throw in a quick comment, just stop on by!

Remember; try to comment on my work with whatever you think needs improving or just to give a tip! Don't worry about making me cry, just say what you believe needs improving. As long its constructive criticism (or freindly comment), not unintellegent insults. It will mean a lot to me. I got to have something at least half decent for a university portfolio. And I'm sure a lot of you know what you’re talking about when it comes to art, from seeing a lot of wonderful pieces all across the forum.

Okay, for criticism.

First I'll look at the Tree. Obviously you went for the "Give the impressions leaves are there" approach, which is what most everyone does and in the end usually looks the nicest. You should have done a more leaf shape instead of jagged triangles. So when your doing leaf outlines make curved thing U's with a pointed tip pointing in all kinds of directions. Your tree has an odd shape, tree's usually start out the widest, then get shorter, you should try to make it flow. Study how branches branch out. They are usually straight-ish through the base, and then smaller branches jet out in all kinds of ways and shapes.

Parts of the dragon look a little bit too flat, and alot of his texture scales don't flow in the proper directions. What you could do is draw a couple of scales in individual places to make it look like there are scales all over, people use that technique alot. His eye is a bit big and all the lines are a bit rough.

Theres not much I could tell you on how to fix it, in fact, if you just draw more, and constantly try new things, your directly on the path to drawing very well. But you have to have the drive to try lots of new ideas and techniques.

I finally have colour everybody! So check out my stuff and enjoy!

And I always enjoy a good comment! "Every eye as there own" I think is how it goes. Everyone sees things differently, so all criticism is appreciated!

The picture's good but just a few things here and there that I see... the muzzle seems to be a bit blocky, and it seems to just stick out from the face.. on the left side (viewers left) you made it transition from the face to the muzzle a bit better then you did on the right but overall it could be improved upon I think.

The head seems a bit too round to me but that just might be me being picky.. other then that things seem to be very sharp (like the black patches and the ears for example but this really is an example of me being picky just something to think about for the future)

overall its a good picture and I really like the color scheme and the eyes.
keep it up!

Thanks! I see what you mean. I do find it to look a little too unatural. I'm thinking of doing a full body piece next with mabey a fire for lighting. Im still figuring out how to use GIMP, so it should turn out better over time.I did do this without any reference though, so I'm slowly breaking away from that.
The inking part was difficult. If you know any good tips in inking, that would help me save time.

Honestly- that picture is freakn creepy - and you shouldn't update the first post with additions you should make a new post with additions - that way when it hits 2 pages people dont have to look back to see whats new.

Man, you are one fussy mod.

It is kinda creepy, I guess. Scrolled down and went 'woah!' Giant floating head popped up my screen.

The head is flat and ridiculously off-center. Aside from that, everything else is still awful.

I'm too out of it to pick anything else out right now, plus just looking at it in all its bigness and brightness kinda hurts my eyes... But, yeah. As for the head being flat, just try to proportion the face and remember that the eyes are in the middle of the head (going from top to bottom) and just make the hair more there. I don't even know if that makes sense... But, yeah. Also, when at an angle that aspects of the face suggest, the muzzle would be farther over. I would suggest looking at other peoples' anthro art to get an idea for how the faces work. I'll admit that I suck at drawing muzzles so tend to just do my own thing. Do whatever you feel more comfortable doing, though. And keep trying.

Ya, It is creepy lol. I'm usally a over picky perfectionest, so I notice many screw ups I did (no sence of texture, no real shape, muzzle off center, preportions are off, angle is not right, shadowing/lighting needs improvement, face seems compresed, colour's need to be a little more "natural", hair dosn't flow right, hair in ear looks too sharp, inking needs to be improved, and so on and so forth lol). But it's good to hear it from you guys (and everyone sees things diffrently!). Thanks for the tips!

I hope they (the tips) helped, and I hope you post more art. It's the only way to improve! (Well, you can improve without posting, but you know what I mean. Right? 8D)
