SIGN UPS IS CLOSED

Rules: (Since I seem to have forgotten to add some)

1. No autohitting/instant killing PCs.

2. All usable Animus need to be normal animals.

3. No copycating characters, in the rp or out. Your character must be original enough to warrant someone actually caring.

4. No one-line posts from this point forward.

5. no Timber Wolves.

6. Maximum two characters (excluding Animi) if you want to have a second, PM me the character sheet and state your reason. I reserve the right to reject or accept any character sheet for any reason, and this rule applies to second characters as well.

7. The Animus thread will be locked after 100 posts. After this, sign-ups will re-open for Animus II, which will include a slightly larger scale. If anyone wishes to op out of the rp at that point, that will be the time to do it. This is so it will be easier to find older posts.

8. On making your own factions: This will be allowable when Animus II begins, but first you must have at least one other PLAYER (not character) willing to be in the faction with you. I reserve the right to reject factions for any reason.

It had been millennia since Aeschaera De Selleran, War Queen of United Man and ArchMagi of the Order of the Animus, had died protecting us from the rift upon the peak of Mount Ahora, after the failure of the dragon riders and the destruction of the last independent kingdom by the Creatures of the Rift, portal to the Ash World, using all her inner power to destroy the massive strength that quaked within that Mountain.

Since then, man has fallen from its unified grace. The arts of the Order were not forgotten, but the Order itself has, though preserved over many years, fallen into impotence in most places and tyranny where it has any real power. The use of Animus, which was originally intended to make every day jobs easier- was prohibited almost solely to the military. Until the division.

What was once the single nation of Man became many, and various factions squabbled over the smallest plots of land. Animus regulation became nearly impossible, and once again it was a free art- for better or for worse, as lightning and fire rained upon hapless towns and cities for the wishes of greedy barons.

--

The Current story:

Ahora is well-known for reasons other than its history. It is the world’s most concentrated source of both diamond and gold. It is suspected that the rift, the one that lead to the World-Beyond-the-Sky, was accidentally opened by miners reaching far into newer veins. Some believe that now the rift was made from a device, and that device has been shut down, irreparable and non-functional, as far as anyone knows. But still does Mount Ahora remain a place of battle- not between men and fiends, but between men and men. Factions vie for control of the Mountain, which acts as a dividing point between several nations- no one lays total claim to it.

Using Animus: Everyone can use Animus to some degree. Each person, at birth, contains within themselves an element and an animal which, combined, best describe their personality. The element can change if the person undergoes a life-changing experience, and occasionally the animal will too. One who uses Animus on a regular level is called a “Wielder.”

The animal is a creature in and of itself- a manifestation of sorts. It is always as intelligent as its wielder. Essentially, it’s a character created by the wielder’s subconscious mind, and often has a complimentary personality to the wielder (A logical mind to an emotional one, a quick actor to a thinker), but rarely are they so opposite that they wind up hating eachother. If they do, the subconscious mind often changes the Animus to a new person. Hatred between oneself and his Animus is a good sign of serious mental conditions.

Many who use the Animus are either born or later achieve symbiosis with their animal. Those born with it do not necessarily give it to their brethren (There’s about a 2 in 3 chance of it happening, though). Those who do this are allowed all the senses of the animal, but the being’s consciousness also becomes a part of them, so often they will undergo serious personality change if they wish to achieve that state later in life. They are still fully capable of using their elemental abilities. It is possible to revert back to a separated form with your Animus if you decide to, and it can be forced.

One can have more than one Animal animus (This does not give them an extra element as well,) yet their intellect is divided between themselves. At ten they reach normal animal intelligence, and at five they can no longer speak, and can only communicate with their masters via empathic communication.

Animus' do have their own names, but they very rarely give them out to anyone.

People seem to have a lack of understanding of exactly how many people are actually wielders- this is kind of like how everyone's mildly Force Sensitive in the Star Wars universe. Very few people are actually capable of using them, and most who do are wise not to show it off wherever they go. *pokes Sable Dove* Not everyone is going to understand why you have a normally feral cat walking calmly beside you into a bar.

-about 10% have a noticeable ability to use Animus at all.
-about 5% can use it to a minor degree.
-less than 2% of the people in the world can actually have an Animus do all the things that the players are capable of doing.

Factions: These are the leading factions in the struggle for control of Mount Ahora.

The Verdid: Defenders of Mount Ahora, these mounted bandits have fought for millennia to keep evil and corrupted men from re-activating the rift. They are not afraid to use less-than-savory means to accomplish that goal, however.

International Trade Regulation (ITR): The ITR has long sought the valuables that lie in massive clusters under Ahora, tunnels of gold and diamond. Their tunnels grow deep in many of its faces, but many also have untouched minerals from the Verdid.

The Order of Reunion: The Order of Reunion is a cult that has long sought the technology of the rift for their own means. They are as mysterious as they are ruthless, and they have left a bloody swathe in their wake to reach what remains of the Rift-Waker.

Setting: Mount Ahora is the primary center of roleplay.

You can be part of any of these three factions or a hand for the highest bidder. Unless a lot of people join, I’m probably not going to include too many extra smaller factions for PC’s to take over.

Character Sheet: There’s only one species- human. A Wielder who uses the Animus to achieve Symbiosis (or is born as such) is still considered human by the majority.

(Use this format)

Name: Jaeger Thorn

Age: 45

Appearance: His face seems wrinkled, making him seem much older than he is, but he walks without the weight of age. He wears a relatively quiet dark red cloak over a plain black tunic. He has a rustic look about him. His belt buckle is emblazoned with a rose thorn. He walks without favoring either leg. His skin looks like it’s been somewhat splotched from age, but his limbs still seem feet, impressively so considering his apparent age. There’s more grey on his head than the hazelnut brown that you suspect was his natural color for a while.

Equipment: four knives, 3", 6", 9", and 12" in length, respectively. the 3" one is hidden under his wrist, and is attached to a spring-loaded device that will project it at least five feet.

Background: Personal Information/History/Background:

In a far off country, the Daniels home burned to the ground, killing two people- Sandra Michelle Daniels, a six-year-old, and her father, Michael Vase Daniels. The mother was never found, though she was known to be living in the home at the time. And her little brother, Oliver Sander Daniels, barely old enough to walk, somehow managed to, on his unsteady legs and mind, find his way away from the blaze.

Adopted and thrown into the streets, he moved from bar to bar, never making a bond with any of them. He had only one thing that stayed with him in his early years- a guitar that had been recovered from the wreckage, that he had from age eight until that very day, that had been broken and repaired a hundred times, that sounded like the death wails of a cat if anyone else tried to play it, but when it was in Jaeger Thorn’s hands, it was like an angel’s harp.

There was a time when he finally returned for answers, to find out why he was abandoned, why his sister was murdered. He searched for three years, to find out the truth- it resided in his mother, thrown into jail for arson. Not his house, but another- but as Thorn searched, he learned that it had been her that was responsible. The apothecaries said she was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. She had burned the house down and ran.

It was when he was twenty four years old, turned out of his last job with a less than warm goodbye, that he picked up a job playing guitar at a local tavern. When someone a little too drunk through an ale glass and caught one of the musicians in the eye, when Jaeger had just…let go.

And the next thing he knew, all the faces in the bar (and as it seemed, all the faces in the world) stared at him, holding a broken liquor bottle in his hand, the attacker bleeding on the floor, his blood on the sharp remnant that Jaeger carried.

He ran for four years, from his life, from himself. That was when, in a quiet street, a voice reached out to him.

Your name is not Oliver, it said simply.

Who is that? he asked.

I'm you, you idiot. And I’m not, at the same time. You should have a general idea of what I’m talking about.

Oliver shook his head vigorously. There was no way he could have been an Animus wielder. They required years of study, or…or trauma. He had been too young, really, to be traumatized by the blazing fires of his home, which he could now only barely remember.

I can help you, hunter, it said. At first, Oliver wanted to state that wasn’t his name, but he realized it was a title. Accept your destiny with me.

What destiny? He asked.

Oliver felt a strange, electrical warmth in his hand, the hand that still carried the whiskey bottle. What was once an object of anathema now seemed like something that was right, something he should keep.

You can’t lug that thing around everywhere, though. Break a piece off.

He took a piece of the shard, and part of it cut his finger, whetting it with his blood.

Go on, don’t be shy. There’ll be more to spill, and a good bit of it won’t be yours. It’ll belong to people like that one you just killed. The people who toss you out when they don’t think you’re good enough, or toss out other people when they don’t think their good enough. And that’s about the sum of the whole cruel world, hunter. Everyone’s done something wrong, something that deserves bloodshed.

We could always forgive them-

The voice was angry now, infuriated, beating at his mind, sending him into moaning on the city street. THEY’VE HAD THEIR CHANCES!

It echoed in his mind. But every time it echoed, he realized he wanted to believe it more and more.

And now, we can profit on that which is necessary. Doesn’t that sound grand?

It-

He wondered if he even decided the next words he said, but he loved saying them anyway.

It does.

It was at the age of twenty five, that he started killing for a living, though you wouldn’t notice from looking at him. He could make a cheerful, friendly front. That was how he lived for almost a quarter of a century- he killed people without asking why. And slowly, what was left of Oliver Sander Daniels died. He took his stage name- John Thorn- and changed it to Jaeger Thorn.

Special Skills: Knife fighting, investigation, playing mandolin.

Weaknesses: His age has made him slower than he used to be.

Animus Element: Lightning

Animus Animal: Raven (Name: Bloodthorn)

Faction: ITR (for now)

Two questions from me, in addition to Hellsingman's;
If a human and their animal achieve symbiosis, do they undergo a physical change? (do they look different, or is it a purely mental change?)

And, what elements are we limited to? (Earth, air, fire, water; or do things like shadow, light, wood, stone, etc. count as well?)

I'll have to read through the info a bit more, but I have got the drift of it. Until then I will just set up my character here:

Name: Feriern Dalamarc

Age: 23

Appearance: Standing at about 5' 8" having a relatively rugged face. He has a light tan, dark brown hair, and green eyes. He stays in shape from travelling often, being the wonderer he is.

Equipment: Short blade with a single edge which he has strapped on his back, a Kama to his left on his belt and 3 three throwing knives strapped to the right of his waist on his belt.

Background: Born and raised in a small village, but ran away at 15 after his parents sudden death. He travels the nation and doesn't stay in one spot for long.

Special Skills: Stealth, climbing, novice at swordplay, skilled with his kama.

Weaknesses: Young and not having any true skill with a sword.

Animus Element: Water

Animus Animal: Fox

Faction: None

I also want to know if their element is water are they able to control the state at which it is in? Like turn a liquid to solid.

It's a physical change as well- basically the obligatory furry race that you have to have on twokinds by law or something.

Medieval time setting.

Elements are fire, water, wind, earth (plant or stone- choose one), ice, lightning.

Right then; that answers all my questions. Except that I've just thought of one more: How often can the person and their animal combine or separate, and how long does this process usually take?

Name: Rori Kenith
Age: 19
Appearance: She is short, and muscular, but she's still obviously female if seen without her over-clothes. Her red-brown hair is cropped roughly to a few inches long. Her eyes are sea-green, flecked with brown. She typically wears a red robe (several sizes too large), trimmed with black and embroidered with black rose on the left chest; and a wide, black sash. Under this, she wears a pair of britches and chest wraps. She also keeps a small, carbuncle amulet either around her neck or her left wrist.
Equipment: Black & white backsword held by sash (blade is white, the rest is black; the blade is only on the point and the side facing the wielder; the other side is dull); sewing kit and hunting knife in a small knapsack on her back.
Background: Her mother died giving birth to her, and her father had wanted a son, so Rori filled the role as best she could. Even after her father died, and she sold the farm and joined the International Trade Regulation, she simply never stopped acting like a boy.
Special Skills: Knows basic first-aid; can sew (clothes and wounds); competent at defensive fighting (both armed and unarmed).
Weaknesses: Intense fear of large amounts of water (anything pond-sized or bigger); lacks much offensive ability.
Animus Element: Stone
Animus Animal: Lynx
Faction: International Trade Regulation.

Location: The bridge of the Commissioner
Name: John 'Silk' Kheldar
Age: 26
Appearance: wiry build, black wavy hair, about 5' 9". has a huge nose
Equipment: light saber and a heavy throwing dagger
Background: Born in a region, his father was an established businessman. Kelhdar enjoyed sneaking around almost as much as he enjoyed making a profit and practised gathering and selling information. Now, he has progressed into a spy, although he prefers the term 'observer'
Special Skills: picking out detailed information, 'talking' with his fingers
Weaknesses: sometime too smart for his own good, and easily distracted- especially if a profit can be gained
Animus Element: stone
Animus Animal: rat
Faction: ITR

Appearance: He looks his age and stands at 6'3". He has no facial hair, but his thick black hair go around his head and down to his shoulders, parted away from his eyes. Blue eyes. He is slim and he has a defensive stance that can withold itself.

Equipment: A sturdy oak bow, a few quivers of arrows, and a handy dandy dagger just in case.

Background: He was born on Mount Ahora with his Animus powers. He obviously disapproved of people trying to invade his homeland, and took action for it.

Special Skills: He is very quick, resourceful and is experienced with the bow.

Weaknesses: He is terrible at close combat, gets drunk often and is clumsy when running away.

Animus Element: Fire

Animus Animal: Crow

Faction: The Verdid

Did I do it correctly?

(Can I change the element to Ice if you add it?)
Edit:(Whoops, you didn't add it yet.)
