Due to nothing more than honest curiosity. :) Speaking of it's a lion, I should probably read his work since he offered the same for me, but if my school gave me enough time to do more than one hobby at a time they'd probably assume I was dying of boredom because I hadn't made a 3D representation of the Eiffel Tower with my belly button lint or something and would whip up some equally obscene project for me.

What's really sad is I could never make a decision. =\

You can't decide who's your favourite character? You? The writer? Okay.

It'd probably be somewhat contradictory to my writing style to have one.

Why?

If you can't decide, here's a helper: IF you had to scrap your story and start a brand new one, which of your characters [in terms of personality, name or appearance] would we be seeing again?

I suppose if my soul was on the line, Jack Theremin would sort of be in all my stories. His personality repeats, even though his occupation and name changes- someone who usually does a hack-job for a living, but winds up doing the right thing in the end. Natasha would be as well, though she would be altered more. I guess Theremin would be my "Favorite," but playing favorites makes me write worse.

In fact, so does talking about my writing too much, which I have a bad habit of doing, see The Morphist FAQ for more details.

need to study now, g'bye.

I have s soft spot for Natasha, but the Chimera is so original and complex that I had to vote for him or he would have eaten my family.
I understand how hard it is to have a favourite character as an author. Do you go for the character whose personality is the most engaging? The character who is the most fun to write? The character who has the most satisfying arc? The character your readers love most?

EDIT:

I find whenever I start to like a character more than others it starts to alter what I would allow to happen to them. I might be more reluctant to kill them off for instance even if it's called for in the story.

I've never had that problem. I have absolutely no hesitation to kill a character if it will serve the story. I would kill a character for the sheer sake of making the reader hurt.

I'm not saying I won't do that, but I'm more reluctant to do so if I personally like the character. I have even teetered on the edge of killing a character only to save them through some explainable means at the last moment.

I know what you mean, I've been attached to my characters as well. But I'm trying to say I could kill my main character off just for the sake of killing a character.
