Alright, this is a problem thats been bugging me for a while, but has never really bothered me enough to do anything about it until now, when I want to burn music to a CD.

Ever since my brother got the game SimCity 4 DELUX. Our CD drive doesn't recognize other Cds. I'll show you what I mean.

And as I took the picture, there is NO CD in the drive.

Now, if I put in a CD, it will run the other CD, but if I put in a blank CD, it thinks that the Sim City CD is still in there, so it says there is no room on the disk, or to insert a blank disk.

Any help?

My CD drive DOES have the ability to burn, I've done it before. The program wouldn't really matter considering I'm burning it through WMP.

And no the SimCity is not a pirate version.

Basically, in short, the drive doesn't show other CDs which is a problem for blank CDs. I should have added that I can't even store information on the CDs such as pictures because of this problem. And yes the CDs are in the right format.

I have a bunch suggestions:

1. plug out the electricity from the driver and wait 10 sec ;) that will maybe work.

2. try to update the driver.

3. try using nero or somthing like that.

4. reinstall windows (if thats what you using)

5. make a big fire and throw ur computer on it.

Hehe, thanks. Number 5 seems like a good options considering my computer is over 4 years old. Hopefully one of those will work, because it's little things like this that get to me. :\

Strictly, this isn't the right board for this (it's a "Tech Board" thing, really). ;)

Anyway, Ozy, I've got a couple things you could try.
    * After inserting the CD, have you tried refreshing the My Computer view (if you manually refresh, does it still think you put the SimCity disc in)?
    * What's your OS (it's been a little long for me to tell 98, 2K, and XP apart by drive icon alone)?
    * Is it patched all the way up?
    * Have you tried disabling Autorun and Autoinsert notification for the CDROM drive? I know it can be a pain, but Win98 in particular had some...oddities to it's autorun behavior.

This should be in the Tech board. Any way, try diabling and enabling the drive. Right click on the my computer icon and click Properties. Switch to the Hardware tab, and click Device Manager. Then, find the CD drive in that list and right click on it and choose Disable. Repeat this but choose enable.

Hah, forgot the tech board. Sorry about that.

Anyway, it seems I've got it working after a ton of messing around, frustration, and talking to myself for a long time.

All I had to do was stop the drive, completely disconnect it from the computer, find the install disk for the drive, and sit here bored out of my mind while it installed.

Anyway, thanks all. I'm not too bright when it comes to computers.

FunEdit: I'm also not letting my brother touch the SimCity disk for a very, very long time.
