This takes place in a modern setting, in a city so dense that the only methods of transportation are a series of monorails and walking. the richest of the city live at the top of massive towers and everyone else lives down below. The city is about the size of New York City (all of it) and cremation is the standard method of burial (to save space).

History:
The city is at war with itself. Minor struggles, day-to-day brawls, all are about to boil over and form a full-blown civil war. As always, there are those who wish to purge the city of evil, those who wish to corrupt and destroy it, and those who get caught in the crossfire.

The city of Telmar has lasted for millennia despite the fact that it resides on top of a rift to Hell itself. this is partially due to the actions of a secret society, the Inquisition, which is dedicated to "protecting the world from evil". Telmar's unique location means that every so often a person is born "tainted" with a seed of the evil power that resides below the city. The seed lies dormant until a the host suffers extreme, life-threating danger, at which point it activates and grants the host powerful demonic abilities to use at will.

These powers do not come without a price. People who continually use their seed's powers for evil purposes will reach a point when their seeds take over their body and unleash even more powerful abilities. The host loses control over their body and becomes a full-blooded demon. Demons are almost always evil, with only one or two exceptions among thousands.

Races/Factions
Humans-have no magical abilities without extreme training. Most take no side in the coming conflict and simply want to live in peace. The main threat a human character poses comes from their equipment and technology. They are overpowered if they can take on two well-equipped enemies without any help or equipment.
Tainted- Humans with powerful demonic abilities. They run the risk of turning into a full-blooded demon if they overuse their powers. Most are good people looking to control what gift they have just received without harming others. Indistinguishable from normal humans by sight alone. Overpowered if they can take down five well trained and equipped humans easily.
Demons-Tainted who have succumbed to their dark seed. They have demonic features that make them stand out and even more powerful abilities than they did in their human forms. The few Demons who are good use extreme discipline to supress their dark urges. All have faster than normal healing. Overpowered if they can take down three Inquisitors (Two body and one mind) easily.
The Police- The police of Telmar. they are dedicated to keeping the peace, a purpose that brings them into direct conflict with the Inquisition. Police are Human or Tainted characters.
The Inquisition-This is a secret society dedicated to protecting the world from evil. Unfortunately, they're method is to kill anyone with a seed inside of them to prevent any more demons from appearing. They will fight everyone with a seed and have no mercy. They are split into three groups:

Mind:Through extreme training, these members are able to gain magical abilities without the use of a seed. They make up the mages and engineers of the Inquisition. when they aren't eating or on a mission, they are training.
Body: These members focus on their physical abilities. They are strong, fast, and fight their targets up close and personal.
Soul: The assassins and spies of the inquisition. Can spot Tainted and Demons with the naked eye. Their main ability is astral projection, during which they can rip the soul out of a target's body, which is usually fatal but can be countered by Tainted, Demons, and strong-willed humans.
The Inquisition has no central leadership and instead is a group of cells that share information and work towards the same cause. Inquisitors are Human characters. Inquisitors are overpowered if they can beat two or more tainted on their own.

Rules:
1. Do not overpower your character. The guidelines above will help but the final decision is up to me.
2. Do not have characters with overpowered equipment e.g., a battlemech.
3. When posting your character description, try to explain what they look and act like.
That's about it. I will start the game once enough people sign up.

dibs on the rare good-sided demon!

got a bio format to help me come up with the specifics?

I'll borrow a bio format from another RP until you post one, so I can give you the general feel of the character.

Name: Vzereth (formerly known as Luke Gesault, renamed himself when he vowed to use his demonship for good)
Age: 19
Sex: male
Faction: Demon
Physical Description: His pallid face stares out at whatever might hold his gaze with his unnaturally deep red eyes, his silver hair falling to his neck, his body quite fit. His wings (I think they have wings when demons? Should they?) spread out to a menacing width, kept in good condition by himself, but one can see numerous scars long since healed over. His arms are covered with strange markings, an attempt by his human self to keep his demonic side in check, And his attire is consisting of a dragon style vest with black pants and boots. He wears a pair of gloves over his hands.

Personality: Since he found out about his power, he has done everything in his power to use it for good and to renew the city, and save it from the jaws of hell, both literally and metaphorically. This turned troublesome when he began using so often to help others that he himself changed, becoming what he hated most.... until he killed his whole family in cold blood as they slept. This haunting memory sealed his mind, enabling him to cast aside his demonic ambitions by remembering his family's faces.

Personal History: After nearly dying from a bank heist gone bad in which he was a bystander, Luke found his power, soonafter using it to help others until he turned. After killing his family, he vowed to use his powers for good, and now seeks to establish a more open-minded version of the Inquisition, but for now he works anonymously with them, fighting both sides as he tries to purify the city that will likely kill him in gratitude.
Other Powers: Vzereth knows he will stick out in a crowd, preferring to save himself the hassle and take up a life living in alleyways, rooftops and terraces. Because of this, he tends to melt into the shadows (not literally, he's just a bit more stealthy from his years of living like that). Vzereth is quicker than most humans, and can summon two demonic blades that disappear when they leave his hands or when he wills them.

let me know if I must alter anything.

Refreshing the character from an older thread

Character Name: Aldred Caebor (Al-dread Say-boar).
Character Age: Fourty Seven.
Race: Human, Pure blooded
Occupation: Inquisition, uses false ID's stating many different jobs when on covert operations
Personality: Not very cheerful. Will laugh at a particular joke he likes, though not often seen to smile. Precise and to the point. Seems cold and uncaring to most people.
Weapons: .44 Magnum, Main side arm. Three rounds pre-loaded, six strapped to body, six within an ammo pouch. Astra 200 9mm Pistol w/ metallic parts and ammunition replaced, Undercover sidearm (Will only ever be carrying one pistol at a time, Astra is only weapon when under cover [Needed for operations not meant to leave any Red Tape]). Only one loading for the Astra. Uzi, Main Primary Firearm. 9mm, 32 Round Capacity. Preloaded, plus two clips. KA-BAR, last resort Combat Knife.

Decent accuracy at seventy meters with all firearms, performs better at closer ranges. Minimal training with knife (Once you're that close to a Demon or Tainted, you're usually dead anyways, or about to be).
Body Armor: Standard Military-Issue.
Appearance: Aldred stands at five foot eleven inches in height. His greying hair is kept short to prevent any potential combatants from gaining a secure grip. By the same note, his facial hair is kept well shaven. His brown eyes have small creases along the edge, making his aging nature more obvious. He is well tanned with leathering skin, allowing him to play off of several ethnicities, though his descent and usual identification is that of a Caucasian male. His clothes tend to be devoid of any major logos, and are often tight fitting in all but the most casual of occasions. Beneath these clothes is a muscular build that shows years of steady physical work and training. His voice is deep, though not disturbingly so (Not 300 Xerxes deep here).
History: Aldred had an average life throughout his earlier years. Average school life, average home life, slightly above average grade (B's), along with two years of community college. He even joined the military at one point, recieving training and bringing his body to slightly above its current condition. The only notable fact of his first twenty years of life is that his father was murdered while Aldred was at a young age, and that he held a phobia to dolls until he was seventeen.

However, there were some problems with Aldred, then known as Borace, like his stubborn nature conflicting with his superiors. This, in turn, made his willpower and determination quite apparent, along with his great ability to control his fears in all but the most obscure situation. Slowly, he was seperated from the majority of his class. Eventually, him and about a dozen other cadets were moved into a new division, recently made the officers told them and made for experimentation.

This led Borace to where his is now. Their training was for the secretive Inquisition. Several other military training camps were shown to be doing the same thing, drawing in the most headstrong and determined students for seperate training procedures. Targets were moved at faster speeds. Higher emphasis was placed on Night Combats - both with and without specialist equipment - and greater physical trials. Due to the nature of the trainee's fewer then five percent were dropped from the program, none of which were willingly done by the trainee's.

Eventually, the nature of the program was revealed to the trainee's. Of course, the majority (including Borace) were skeptical, some even outraged at the seemingly wasted time. However, it was eventually made clear to the trainee's (After several real-combat photo's and after reports) that the program was infact serious, and that they were going to be bumping with the things of the Night. Again, testament to the Trainee's stubborness, the drop out rate was small (Only three percent dropped out upon learning what they'd be used against).

Slowly, the teams were weened into combat missions. Even on the 'safest' missions, there was almost always a casualty. By the end of training, live combat, and full promotion to ranked soldiers in the program, only Borace and two others remained (One of which is still participating in missions, the other who is now at a secure, 'safe' paper pushing position). At the end of the program, with his immediate family now dead, his name officially became Aldred Caebor.

Being a veteran of nearly twenty five years, over a dozen missions, and a definite killcount of at least four 'Demons' (along with a nearly unheard of survival rate topped by only Eighteen other members), Aldred was promoted to a rank of squad leader.

wow, he can even have the saying "When things go bump in the night... we bump back."

so, I'm guessing that the inquisition's gonna be all-out anti-demon, even if Vzereth helps them a number of times?

My guy is more of a "The enemy of my enemy is killed second" type of guy.

As long as Vzereth is less of a problem to Aldred than he is to the other Demons, Aldred won't start firing into him.

Well like I said, his aim's the same as the inquisition, he's just on the wrong side, so he has to fight both, because I'm sure not all the inquisition's members will be so clear-minded when thinking about the possible use of demons for their profit. So, for survival, sometimes he has to fight the inquisition as well, although he considers it a step backward from his goal and he'd rather not.

Fair enough. Sometimes the Inquisition would likely need to remove Humans for similar reasons (For example, having a High-Ranking human who's corrupted to follow the Demon's agenda would likely need to be removed).

And Cremation would also serve another useful role in this society (Speaking on the OP): Prevents the summoning of Corpses to do the Demon's bidding.

These are both great characters. Approve'd!
Lohti, some demons do have wings, but because of the human bone structure they can't be used for flight but are rather used to send powerful gusts of air at their opponent or for gliding, so they aren't as useful as they would first appear. Your bio format works fine. Lohti and Talonmaster, your interpretation of the inquisition ("the enemy of my enemy gets killed second" and removal of some humans) is perfect. I'm assuming that Aldred belongs to the Body branch of the Inquisition.

Everyone else, it's not to late to sign up! There are still open spots!

Aye, though he's much more reliant on ranged combat than Close Quarters Combat.

Character Name: Areslaos Donner
Character Age: 30
Race: Human
Occupation: The Inquisition type soul.
Personality: He loves his job. He is very sadistic, gets angry when things are not going his way, and sometimes get a little cheerful.
Weapons: Smith and Wesson .500 Magnum, two of these thingies, with the Suppressor, shotgun, sniper rifle, a katana, and a metal dental floss looking...string that is used for close quarters.
He only uses the shot gun when he is in a room with a large amount of seeds in a room.
Body Armor: normal agents clothing with a bulletproof vest underneath it.
Appearance: looks sort of like this
History: Areslaos was born in a religious house; his father was also an Inquisition, served as a body agent, Ares was going to become a police officer of talmar. Then a tragic day happens in Ares life, his father died by the hands of demons. Ares then became an Inquisition at a young age, and hated every demon, every tainted, and every seed; weather good or bad.

Hmm... seems a bit villainous. He'll have to be able to work with Demons and Tainted (at least temporarily) for the game, but that's about it. Now we need one more character (hopefully Tainted) and i'll begin the game.

Location: The people in the white lab coats won't tell me.
Character name: Nergal

Character age: 17

Race: Tainted

Occupation: Kinda a thief. It'll make sense here soon enough.

Personality: A very angry and conniving young man. Prefers not getting involved, and siding against the police or Inquisition when he must.

Weapons: Carries around a knife and a short blade at all times. Keeps them out of sight, and likes to draw them after he manages to get the enemy close, sometimes by pretending to surrender.

Tainted Powers: Can freeze the moisture in the air within a certain short range. Due to it's range, he still needs to be fairly close to his enemy to use it. He uses it most often to shield himself, or slip up opponents, and has figured out some distance attacks.

Appearance: A tall, well built lad, standing at about 6'2". His face always seems to have a twisted expression of frustration or anger. He prefers to keep his black hair short, so as to not get in the way. He wears a tight green shirt, loose brown shorts, and very comfortable running shoes.

History: His family somehow discovered that he was infected with the seed when he was very young, and quickly thrust him from their lives, without bothering to tell him why. He was forced to live on the street, and had to steal anything he needed. As he grew older, he grew to resent his family, and all of the people in the city that refused to help out a homeless child.

How's that? I am somewhat new to the RP stuff, but I know what pisses people off, so I won't do it. But if I do anything wrong, let me know what it was so I can learn.

Hm beat me to it...

Name: Sammi Chapmen
Rank: none
Code Name/nickname: Sam
Species/Race: Human (just a plain old human...)

Gender: Female
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 110lb
Age: 32
Occupation: Police Sergeant
Area of Expertise: hand to hand
Physical Description:
Hair Style: straight hair, usually pulled back in a ponytail and braided down the length, her bangs cover her eyes
Colour: dark brown with orange highlights
Length: waist length
Eye style/colour: green eyes
Tattoos/distinctive markings: none
Clothing description: blue jeans with a black-leather studded belt, faux-leather gloves with the index fingertips cut off, a blue bandanna, white T-shirt under a brown 'bomber' jacket'
Weapons/offensive items:
1. Colt .45 Auto
2. Commando knife
Armour/defensive items: none
Character Vehicles: often drives a black DeLorean
Normal skill/abilities: half decent shot with either hand
Abnormal skills/abilities: none
Weaknesses (natural/unnatural): stubbornness and general dislike of men
Personality: generally a loner she 'plays by the rules'- most of the time- and tends to avoid groups. Open spaces with lots of people make her uneasy and after a series of bad boyfriends, she doesn't like to trust men. She alos avoid getting too close to anyone in case something happens to them. Will kill if necessary but never in cold blood.
Brief Bio: She grew up in the East End of town in one of the better areas but still had to watch her back walking to and from school. With three older brothers she quickly learned how to defend herself if needed and only occasionally had to take action- the oldest still had a powerful reputation in the school. When she was old enough to get into the training programs, she became a officer of the law and has had her fair share of altercations with the Inquisition and demons. Nothing a little lead and a good beating won't handle.....
