It has just fully occurred to me that Keith's eye's - unlike any other characters' in TwoKinds - are only composed of the Iris...no 'white' or pupil...ever...

There are times when the composition of other character's eyes change to emphasize mood and such but none are as constant as Keith's...

Though, he does have his father's eyes...lol

Actually, I think Keith's whites can be seen a couple of times in the older pages. I can't remember which pages, though.

It's because he's become so jaded from being falsely accused of murder, exiled, forced to live among a people he's been raised to believe are primitive savages, falls in love with one of them, only to have her run off at the alter, and then trudge through a land of people who would rather kill him than speak to him for years and years.. Should I continue?

Maybe he's related to the tavern owner?
XD

The whites of his eyes are here, when he's very surprised.

Other Basitin have also had this eye type. Also notable are Keith's father and the tavernmaster in today's comic.

It's just a rarer Basitin eye coloration that evolved out of the artwork in the comic.

Maby he is depressed, after all if you were wrongly accused of murder and banished what would your eyes look like?

Yeah...so it does appear also in the Taverowner's character...don't know why I overlooked that. lol

I looked back to the panel of Keith as a child...

Only time he has 'real' eyes. Plus the surprised moment with Alaric (minus the pupils :P).

There is also here where the pupils are included...no 'white'...

The other tavernkeeper's eyes (the mysterious guy) generally also has ill-defined eyes 'cept for this close up...

Even as a Basitin...incomplete...

Yeah, so Keith eyes do show in different states...and there are a few examples, but they always default back to the eyes we all know and love :3

I always figuer his race just has poor eye seight in the day time (I mean why else would their solders wear blindfolds and still fight just as good as one without one)

Alaric is just evil (or crazy, maybe both) so he has normal eyes

I think it's just the way they look. Like how the Chinese have different eyes compared to you guys.

Considering Keith's wide-eyed innocence before Laura leaves him, I'm going to agree with Dogman, et al.

The same thing is commonly done in anime. The young and innocent have huge, shining eyes. But you can tell in an instant (and this is most true for female characters) that they've been through something that's left them cynical when their eyes shrink to more normal size.

Though this isn't totally on topic, it's interesting that Natani and Keith's brother both have a discolored eye...

Once again, Nickolai Alaric is not Keith Keiser's brother. It was a figure of speech.

Both Natani and Alaric have discolored eyes because each is blind in one eye.

For some reason I had the idea that in Natani it was indicative of his... duality. Y'know, the whole gender issue, and how he telepathically communicates with his brother. Seemed to fit symbolically, somehow.

Oh, yes, I quite agree. Actually, I'd thought very much the same originally. I had another forumgoer correct me, and I forced him to give me the reference. Tom'd posted a confirmation that she was blind in that eye on the RvB forum. (I'd love to link you to his post, but I cannot, for the life of me, find it.) Now, I'll grant that's not necessarily canon, but it's better than nothing. It does, however, make sense for her to have lost the sight in that eye in the accident that bound her telepathically to her brother since she's not scarred otherwise. But we don't know -- it could just have easily been some other accidental event during her career as an assassin. All we really know is that she wasn't born that way.

You know, I wonder if the coming events for Keith will change his eye design. If we assume that his eyes do look the way they do because he's jaded and world-weary, then maybe when Natani or Laura restores his faith in Keidran and returns love to his heart, his eyes will lose their half-lidded cynicism.

--AT LAST--
Found the bugger. This marks when I was corrected on the issue of Natani's eye. Though to view the reference, you'll need a free account at the RvB forums.

This is now entered in my WoG codex so I don't have to search for it again. :x
