I couldn't help but notice Eric sailed almost straight out into the middle of the "Grand Ocean" before turning to sail towards the Basitin Isles, instead of staying close to the coast before turning south. Sailing out towards the southern most point on the middle part of the continent, then sailing directly south would have probably been a lot faster, and they would have been able to get fresh supplies for the crossing over the open ocean.
it's probably best to note that the southern point is still in the keidran territory. and therefore, unlikely that a human ship (with keidran slaves on it) would be welcome in port.

Here, you can see that they refer to their destination as being 'on the continent', beyond the Basitin shores - thus, inland. The island we see there must be not in the ocean, but in a lake.
as for this, it is possible that the island in the picture is not actually lyn'knoll at all. it isn't labeled and and may just be the basitin isles that lyn'knoll is supposed to be beyond.
regardless, i find it funny that their destination, lyn'knoll, is marked with an X (X never marks the spot, as Dr. Jones puts it). Also, this is Erics's map. why would Trace's destination be marked on it? did Eric give it to him? Eric isn't supposed to know about lyn'knoll (i doubt Nora has told him, at least).
EDIT: maybe trace marked it on his own later
