Synopsis wrote:
Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.

Saw the trailer when I went to watch I Am Legend. I can't wait for it to come out!

The problem I have with this is simple: the first of the "new" batman movies, y'know, way back when Michael Keaton was batman, covered both the rise and fall of Joker. Are they wiping the slate and starting completely over?

I'm pretty sure they are starting over. Batman Begins shows how Bruce Wayne became Batman and at the end of the movie Commissioner Gordon gives Batman a Joker card. I try to forget that there were ever any Batman movies before Batman Begins.

......but I liked the Michael Keaton Batman. Nuts.
The others were forgettable, granted, but Michael worked.

OOOOOO my gracious, I know what he's doing! Heath's playing Nicholson playing the joker.

egads, did anybody just follow that? I swear it made sense before I typed it.

nah, you want an off the wall Joker, you call Mark Hamil. Afterall, he created the most unforgettable joker for the Animated series.
Yes folks, Luke skywalker voiced the definitive joker.

I thought he looked a lot like Nicholson and even commented on that to my brother.

What? Oh darn it! I was expecting a preview of this movie when I went to see Sweeney Todd yesterday, considering they said there would be a trailer this month. Oh well, thanks for the link!
And speaking of Sweeney Todd why the heck is there no thread for it on here?

Oddly enough, this same topic... well, about the same topic, came up at the other forum I frequent (I have the same user name, and an avatar of Flora).

I shall reiterate what I said there:

The issue for me is not about the actor who plays The Joker, but what direction they go with his backstory. If Batman Begins is any indication of how they handle character origins, I hope they don't reduce him to a guy who goes around cutting people. If they do that... hopefully he'll still be Batman's "intellectual equal", since that was kinda the whole point of Joker. I mean, he's Batman's archenemy, after all.
