Any stress that ruptures the tiny vessels lining the inide of the nose: dry air, force trauma . etc.

Wynni's got it.

If you've already got weak capillaries (for any number of reasons, including environmental effects), then elevated blood pressure would be able to do it too, which is probably where the use of the nosebleed to indicate arousal probably stems. (Though in that instance, I simply prefer to comment that the blood has other places it would rather be at that time. ;))

Without some other underlying physiological cause, I don't think you could eat enough chocolate to cause any issues. That sounds to me much like the "chocolate causes acne" urban legend that parents tell their children to keep them from eating nothing but chocolate.

Of course, with other underlying health problems, you could theoretically eat enough chocolate to aggravate hypertension, and then in a situation where your nose was dried out enough (dry air, allergies, illness, etc...) or injured, it could cause a nosebleed. But we're starting to get contrived.

Now, I'm no biologist, med student, nurse, or expert of any other kind, but so far as I know, you cannot get nosebleeds just from eating chocolate.

now that i think back when im still living with my parents, they always said that if i have too much chocolate, its bad and i would get nose bleed...
Ahhh...childhood days

So....anyone knows why the blood vessel in our nose is so close to the surface that it would burst easily?

The Chinese over here blame nosebleeds and a bunch of other things on 'heatiness'.

One, it's a small, critical area. The air brought in has to be humidified, warmed, and sterilized. Processes which first start
in the nasal passages. The tiny vessels of the inner surface provide nourishment to the tissues, warmth, and the signals to control mucus flow and immune function secretions. Tiny means fragile, and small space means exposure. Thereby making it easier for something to go wrong, and cause nosebleeds.

Luckily, since they're tiny, they heal quickly, and not much blood is lost (no matter how much it might look like at the time.)

While chocolate may not cause nosebleeds, aspirin can aggrevate them, as it is a blood thinner. Anything that raises blood pressure could possibly increase a natural tendency towards nosebleeds.

Maybe she slammed her face into the door from surprise, or she burst a blood vessel in shock.

Another cause is having abnormally large adenoids. Sometimes when they become inflamed, they can smash small capillaries and cause a nose bleed.

*Use to have that problem when he was little*

Cacao can theoretically cause vessel rupture, in my opinion, given that it kills small animals in ways closely related to blood pressure, but animals bigger than kicking dogs rarely consume enough to need to receive veterinary care, which says quite a bit about the chances of it giving you a nosebleed.
