Wow.

First off, the shopkeeper guy is the whip. o_o

Flora is wearing a collar with a bell on it, and playing with two beings, most likely people, one of which has the same hair as Eric. I recognize that colour of purple hair, too, but I can't place it.

So... two things spring to mind for the outcome of this comic.

1. Flora was the Keidran that killed Saria.

2. The shopkeeper guy was behind the killing and framed Flora, OR paid Flora, OR... the possibilities are pretty much endless here.

Flora is very cute in that third panel. :P

Nice strip, as always, Tom.

You know, i thought he looked like the shopkeeper too, but it could just be by chance that he resembles him.
And those two kids were in the comic with little-flora before, I'd post a link, but I don't have time right now to look @_@

First, to get it out of the way...
ZOMG it's Flora!
Next...Isn't that purple haired gal Trace's friend...what was her name? Drat, I know I remember her...the one that punched out Scythe, and shared a pizza with him.
Third, the blond guy does indeed look like Eric, but that could easilly be a coincidence.
Fourth, I think that if that purple haired gal is indeed who we think it it, it's the first we've seen of her since the Ephemural battle...
Fifth, I think that Whip Guy is indeed the shopkeeper.
Finally, jeebus Flora's cute with that bell collar on her neck. Can I have one? I'll be a good lil' kitty for ya^^

You're right, we've seen those two before -- they were Flora's playmates in the past. It's interesting to see Trace and Flora's paths converge here. We know there'll be a repeat of this scene later in the time line (pocketlint linked it above), but with a much less innocent atmosphere. I wonder if we'll see Trace's life converge with any others (yeah, I'm still hoping to see Natani and Zen do something half-way competent, even if this would make Natani middle-aged. It's far more likely that their lives converge with Trace's in a different way -- in his grief, Trace torches every Keidran village he can find for miles, like the Sandpeople part of Star Wars Episode two, only not as stupid. This action orphans the pair of will-be assassins.)

That isn't Maren- Maren is one of Trace's old friends not Flora's. That girl doesn't have a name- and that is definitely Flora's old master.

Aha! The shopkeeper shows himself again! Tom is way too careful now to put someone with the same hair color, eye color, and bandaged hands just randomly into the comic at the beginning of a storyline like this one...that's our man, all right.

*scurries off to think of more shopkeeper theories*

I don't know if I'd call Kei "Flora's master." I'd say Kei is Flora's master's son. Unless property laws are very different in TwoKinds, or she's given to him as a gift later (like Kathrin was to Eric), he looks too young in the first image (and here) to be a slave owner. They're playing both there and here -- he's not ordering her around. Though I agree, Sage, that's not Maren, and that is Kei from Flora's past.

He is her owner - as is his father just as if you have a pet - your parents are responsible as are you. There's not really an age limit on when you can own a pet other than being able to do so physically and mentally, same goes for a slave for the most part. Also its been mentioned in the stories about Flora's past that Kei is her owner as well.

Hm, someone could compare the Shopkeeper (Who appears everywhere) to Dracula, perhaps.

After all, there may only be a dozen templars, it's just Mr. Shopkeeper can get around really fast.

Hm, most of the previous links show 4 years back, and this one was 6 years back. Flora was... 6 at the time? 8 When Euchre saved her?

Alright, you know, I really wasn't going to get into this because it's both not very important, and I'm very tired, but I figured, "Why take it easy on Sage?" and "How else will he get his entertainment? Better from me than our poor members on the Art board."

Allow me to elucidate on my thinking. I'm viewing this from a legal perspective, rather than a more familial one, which is the view you take. Considering that I believe "slaves are property" draws a line of comparison more between slaves and, say, land holdings rather than slaves and pets, that makes sense. And even pets, legally, don't really "belong" to minors. Not in the view of the municipal district you live in (I'm getting my dog licensed this month, it's pretty much like just about any other contract, somebody has to be responsible and minors aren't considered responsible). Even allowing for sixteen to be the age where you become an adult (which would be pretty fair for the TwoKinds world, I don't remember now if that's actually stated anywhere), Kei isn't an adult. Since I'm assuming his father purchased her, she's the legal property of Kei's father. While she would be required to obey Kei, he wouldn't be her "master" per se. Unless, as I stated before, he was given Flora as a gift when he reached the age of majority. I'm really just arguing semantics, but semantics are important. How else do we differentiate between "slave" and "pet" but by semantics?

Besides, which "stories about Flora's past" are you talking about? The old ones that Tom's stated are non-canon and were written before he'd finalized the storyline? Or are there others that aren't coming to my mind at the moment (after all, my memory's not perfect, and I don't partake in either the IRC or the RvB forums, both of which are places where things seem to turn up occaisionally)?

Based on her age being given as 11 (that's some six or seven months back), she'd be closer to five years old in this flashback and seven when Euchre pulled her out of the way of the cart. Though the numbers are rough enough that it's just an approximation. I'd say you're close enough for our purposes.
