Well Ive been giving some thought on this for a little bit and ive been wanting ot build a PC for quite some time since I am not able to get my laptop to everything I need. I was wondering if anyone can suggest some decent parts for a PC made for multimedia purposes such as Gaming (doesnt need to be for the high res games just things like emulations and can at least run Doom 3), Video Editing, possible TV hook up to record some TV Recordings that i have made, etc. I havent really built a PC on my own before Ive mostly made hybrids from computers that have been given to me so Im seeking to make something that will do what I want it to do.

What I know that i want in my PC is at least a Duo Core 2 processor at least 2.0 GHZ and I want it by Intel since I havent had too much experience with AMD.

Also I will for sure grab an NVIDIA card but I want one that can handle DOS games too Ive been hearing that the new 8000 Series of NVIDIA have trouble with playing old school games. And was wondering if anyone has differing opinions.

So what Im really looking for good brand suggestions on are for Video Cards by NVIDIA, a motherboard brand thats reliable, and who makes some decent ram at a reasonable price (not cheap but yet not to expensive and reliable), also Im looking for what one can consider to be a good powersupply to use I know somewhere over 500Watts would be good to have but Im wondering what most would consider to be a reliable and good brand to buy from.

As for the hard drive Im set on at least getting a Western Digital Hard Drive and a SATA interface DVD+ and -R writer.

Also I would like to say thank you in advance for the suggestions.

I'm pretty loyal to Gigabyte for a motherboard manufacturer, I've been happy with the hardware they've put together and it's generally very overclocking friendly.

I'm afraid I don't have much more input, even though I've just gotten my new computer to a working state because I went just about the opposite of you: AMD, will put a Radeon in it (I've got an AMD/ATI chipset so I'm trying for the set bonus ;), though I must admit it's an experiment for me -- the nForce chipset from NVIDIA is very solid), and will be dropping Seagate HDDs into it (the hard drives and graphics card are waiting on me to be able to afford them). Just picked up 2 gigs of GSKILL RAM for $70 off NewEgg; they're at least a fairly respectable company as far as RAM manufacturers go.

I'm surprised that new graphics cards would choke on older games...Though on second thought, if you're trying to run them natively, the new card might not support the old VGA modes that all the old games depended on, since we don't do that sort of thing anymore.

I'm totally loyal to Crucial.com for RAM. They give a lifetime warranty on all their RAM, and it's always worked well for me. As for a video card, if you're worried about the 8000 series, I'd recommend the 7950. I hear it's good.

It is good performance wise and good if you don't need the latest. Nvida and ATI for that matter has a lot of work left on their drivers. I'd still get an 8000 series card since it might make a good future investment. 8600 is not that expensive and I think there are emulators out there like dosbox that fix most of the games.

Motherboards, well I stick with Albatron or ASUS. They've worked for me on two PC builds I've done. PSU I'm never that picky with but stay away from the budget market brands. Antec, Coolermaster, Tagan are good choices. Ram I've run with Kingston and Corsair so I've sticked with them always.

Thats my expereiences/Recomendations.

Given the option, I would take the new 8800 gt, which is 5% lower than the 8800GTX and run it in SLI, its still cheaper than an 8800 GTX never mind an ultra

The ultra may be the most powerful card out there but its also the most expensive

Agreed. Unless you want to dish out another 400 dollars than you need to, I'd just get the 8800 GT. It'll do what you want and more.
