Stripes : Skin deep?

Perhaps this has already been discussed (did a search, but did not find it anywhere), and I'm not sure why I am wondering this but:

We can all see that Flora's fur is striped, but is SHE striped? I mean, if she was shaved (goodness forbid!), would her skin have stripes?

Perhaps this is unanswerable - but what do you think?

(Oh my...should this be in the FAQ board?)

i don't know, in some animals fur color is determined by skin color. it's up to the comic author to decide if thats the case with flora.

Yes, tiger fur reflects the color of the skin underneath it...but I was just entertaining some healthy speculation - one tends to wonder these things...

unless we're talking dye job or magic; fur patterns reflect skin patterns.

Not necessarily, Wynni. Some species don't, some do.
If I shaved all the fur off a black and white border collie, it isn't black and white in patches where the corresponding coloured fur was.
I doubt we'll have an answer for it, unless as kaiser said the artist answers it, as flora is neither a tiger, or a human.
Sure, she has characteristics of both, but she is neither species.

My friend had to give his cat a hair cut. THe cat is an orange tabby. He's completely shaved down to the skin and his skin is all peach coloured, not striped. So it doesn't happen with housecats. So you know!

Sorry guys, bad case of opened mouth inserted foot. I was half remembering a childhood incident. I was helping wash . . .something, and I can clearly remember how the skin looked when the fur was wetted down . . . .what it was is lost in time. I guess I still remember the skin because it was such a surprise at the time.

A ginger tabby's coat doesn't have a strong color contrast;x I'd be curious to see the skin pattern on a calico or totoise shell, where the colors have a huge shade difference.

I would like to think she would. But who would shave Flora???
