I have a Toshiba Laptop,

Verizon DSL

Vista and Ubuntu.

Vista is fine, the wireless is working, but for Ubuntu I need to plug the Ethernet cable in.

Anyone know how I can get my modem and Ubuntu connect wireless?

Thats a bit vague so my answer may not be helpful but try Ndiswrapper and download the Windows XP drivers from the card manufacturer.

homepage: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/

setup on unbuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs/Driver ... apperHowto

For anything more precise than Sai_rabbit's answer (which is a pretty good one), we'd need to know what chipset the wireless card uses. I used to run Madwifi for my Atheros wireless card, but your kernel might have some drivers built in for the card now (goodness knows that mine now does and I haven't figured out how to make it work right either myself; though I'm on Gentoo rather than Ubunto).

If its a toshiba satellite its probably a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, I have a Toshiba laptop as well.

If your not sure go to http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html download this program it should give you some detailed info on what hardware you have but this will only work in Windows btw.

Worded it wrong, I meant wireless to a modem, not WiFi...

Also, I have no idea how to get Java, or the Flash Plug in....thing... at least Vista made it easy...

Your description of your problem lacks detail(it is not descriptive enough).

ps.

java:
1. http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/ ... leId=11284
2. move the downloaded file to /usr/
3. sudo chmod 766 downloaded_file
4. ./downloaded_file
5. ln -sf /usr/javadirectoryjustcreated/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/

flash:
1. http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/fl ... nux.tar.gz
2. extract
3. run extracted program as root with sudo
4. when it asks where to put it: /usr/lib/firefox

*sigh*
