I tossed 10,000 firecrackers on to an open fire once. The fire was gone after the firecrackers finished exploding. GO AMERICA!

Our 4th July is November 5th. Along with the pyrotechnics we burn effigies of an early 17th century anti-royalist, then cook potatoes in the embers.
Fun :-)

We don't really do anything for the 4th of July anymore. The novelty of the big explosions kind of wore off for me. Id rather just watch them.

I used to blow near a hundred dollars into artillery shells and floral shells (and ground bloom flowers strapped to artillery shells :P), but college kinda ruined that. Stupid big city and their stupid ordinances against fireworks.

But it looks like I'm getting started in a new tradition -- going out with my cousins and shooting trap. I think firearms are a pretty good way to celebrate Independence. ;)

I'm from a state that requires the fire dept. to be around and outlaws the sale of sparklers, and I don't feel a lack, mostly because I don't see the point of anything small enough that you wouldn't need the fire dept. for anyway. If you don't need to send it into the stratosphere for it to be anywhere near safe, what's so cool about it?

Anything that leaves the ground or sparks is illegal :( And then every year, the shows get canceled due to rain!

My favorite thing to do is go to the July 4th baseball game, because there's an amazing fireworks show after it and I love baseball!

I just remembered: around here, we eat salmon for our fourth of July dinners. My father, who is from New York, thinks it's odd, but he doesn't do the cooking on that day, so he eats salmon.

Ah, how did that go again?

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

I first heard that in V for Vendetta.

Anyway, here in the south, we do things a little differently. My buddies and I bought some supplies, and made a large fireworks cannon. It's got 3 barrels, a sight, shoulder supports, and grips. That, along with roman candle wars and a blatant disregard for our own safety, make for a killer 4th of July.

Cheers! :P

In good ol' ND they recently passed a ban on bottle rockets, but all the nagging from everybody got it repealed in under a week.
You can hike up taxes, you can betray the values of your voting base, you can spend millions in un-needed building plans, but mess with out bottle rockets and there'll be HELL TO PAY!

Try outlawing them outside of designated areas in fields around the city, which could then be monitored for sanity.

Nobody sets them off in town, everybody either goes to a farm or the lake (mostly the lake)
I think it is illegal to set them off in town, wouldn't want to take out the neighbors window or small child.
