Cyclists almost always have the right of way. Even though I'm a little biased myself (being an avid cyclist), that driver overreacted. But it was funny, I'll give you that.

I'm a little biased as I'm irritated by bicyclists who ride in the streets, then again where I live they have NO excuse to. We have a trail that runs for miles and I see these morons riding their bikes on the street not even 6 feet away from the freaking trail (which is empty half the time, why? These morons don't use it). I'm irritated that all this money goes into building em a safe place to ride their bikes that doesn't have cracks, potholes, or oh I dunno...CARS. Eh anyhow sorry bout goin on a bit of a rant there. I don't think what the guy did was right beating the cyclist, though it is a pretty irritating situation.

Not everyone bicycles for recreation, many people also use bikes for transportation. It's rather common at my school, and they will ride on the street as well. Doesn't bug me, but it makes me nervous to drive near them.

The bus driver definitely over reacted. I mean, if I did that in my car would he beat me up too? ._.;;; I didn't find it overly amusing or anything, just kind of stupid. Though if it was a drive-by punch from the bus, I would have laughed. A lot.

My issue is not them riding to get to work or for recreation but them riding down a road for several miles which has a bike trail (I'm not even joking I'll have to get pics for you of these people) running parallel the entire length of the road and has plenty of places to cross/get on, yet they will ride right in the road NEXT to the path on the shoulder (which is dirt) vs the paved and well kept trail we pay taxes to upkeep. If you live in a city and have to ride in the street then I guess there's no getting around it.

Wow this driver is a sicko.

Bikes around here have to go on the roads since they aren't allowed on the sidewalks by law. Its not worth getting angry over cyclists.

Well, sometimes I have no choice but to ride on the street. Even though we have sidewalks where I live, they are right beside driveways, and the cars can't see bikers because of the hedges. Also, depending of the kind of bike you're riding, some can't use the sidewalk. On my road bike, I average about 28 mph on the road. On a sidewalk, I'm always having to slam on the brakes to avoid kids and joggers. Besides, the roads are much smoother than the sidewalks, and much more care goes into making them. Bikers have the right to be on the road, and most motorists don't realize that.

Guys, I'm confused, but that might be because we do things different here in England. Here pedal bikes go in the road (unless you're 3 years old and have stabilisers, etc). Cyclists are fully fledge users of the road, like horse riders. Are you saying that in the US you have bikes negotiating pedestrians along the side of the road?

And there is *no* excuse for violence. Its okay in comics, within reason, but not in real life. NEVER.

Here in America it depends on the state and area for cyclists. Cyclists in cities and towns have to go on the road except if they are children. I don't think they're considered pedestrian so they must use the roads.

Plus drivers must be DEFENSIVE drivers. I know that alot of drivers do this but they go yellow lights that change waaaay before you get halfway out. Most times drivers don't think defensively. :/

Quebec here, we need to do bicycle on the road, that's the law.

I am amazed to see that someone with a bicycle could get himself totally beaten by a driver with road rage :o He was just trying to make the world with less popution! :P

My entire town has side lanes and walkes expressly for bikes. 80% of them use the middle of the road. I yell at them going by.

EDIT: Typo.

Yeah, in South Carolina, most of our cyclists can go on either the road or the street. We have a lot of beat up sidewalks and roads, so the alternative (sidewalk instead of road, or visa versa) could be a much smoother ride. But I have been yelled at by the police for being on some sidewalks, but I guess that's only in highly congested areas.
