It's more likely that he was framed for the murder. Normally the most obvious would be the current Arms General would have profited most of all from the death of Keith's father. But the arms general is usually the stupidest of the generals, being the brute rather than the smart fighter so either of the other two Generals are likely suspects because they would benefit if the new general was dumber or if they didn't like the old one. It's also possible the Arms General was once one of the other Generals, and was given a different position-- moving in as the Arms General, and then into - say - the Master General position.

I don't know why, but I really like the simplicity of this comic. It shows that the simplest comics can create gigantic speculation. Or something along those lines.

My favorite part of the comic is that spooky tree shadow behind Keith in panel three. It just adds to the atmosphere so nicely...

Thanks Tom!

I have a theory - Keith thinks his father did something terrible. Maybe Keith was framed but so was his father, so Keith would think he is the reason he was banished... but there was someone behind it all. So really, Keith's father isn't to blame. That would come as a huge shock and twist for Keith, so then Keith can have a big reconciliation moment and/or an epiphany.

?

Just a thought.

See now thats a good and logical thought on a good - but common - twist! Yeah it's a pretty common thing that comes up - however we all know common doesn't mean cliche, what is more important than just "Keith turns out not to have known his father wasnt as bad a person as he thought" is WHY - the reason behind it means more than the common use.

Thanks Paopu for actually contributing something in a reasonable and possible way rather than the silly crap we get half the time like "I think Natani is a guy thats been magic'd into being a girl!"

Sounds like a reasonable line of logic to me. It'd certainly be a twist on what would be a common idea of "my father was evil." Makes me wonder what Tom's go up his sleeve for this plotline.

+ 5 8) , thats the way to go

On the comic, I wonder if Keith's mother was any sort of military person, or if she was just a normal basitian, but i have a feeling the next comic will be a flash-back, just from how this one ended with "but he was a terrible person"

just a hunch...

The Basitin military consists of every Basitin citizen. Everyone is required to be militarily trained from the age of 5, no matter who they are. Their nation is their military. Should there ever be a battle, everyone would become a soldier.

Are we surprised his father was a jerk? We all remember Keith's nightmare flashback. Maybe he went insane -- a little murder/suicide, and the only one left gets the blame, because, after all, how could the Arms General go nuts and kill his family? There, that's my contribution to the speculative mix. A more likely explanation is as has been noted -- Keith's father was of the opinion that Keith just needed someone to push him, like Shaun's step-father in "Shaun of the Dead." Of course, that didn't work out so well, leaving Keith with a lot of resentment toward his father. And then there's the monstrously high expectations that his father's position placed on Keith. That's just a recipe for a poor home life.

Swimsuits and underwear, Sage? That's even sillier than the maid costumes. :P Hrm...Now I can only envision the cover art to the National Lampoon "Vacation" movies.

Well, I sorta doubt the more believable explanation you provided avwolf.

Well, Phil of Shaun of the Dead didn't do a terrible thing (Besides chase Shaun around with a Cricket Bat in the yard once, but you'd do that too if your son called you a MF.) while Keith's father is hated because he did something terrible (I think, Keith said so. Or he's being overly dramatic. Like Shaun).

That and I bet Shaun held some respect for his Step-Father, he didn't hate him like Keith... wait, Keith does hate his father right?

Sounds similar to the plot in Final Fantasy VII about Red XIII. Hates his father thinks he's a coward and that he ran away and left his mother to die when the village was attacked. Finds out later that he ran to the other side of the village to make sure that they weren't invaded from the other side as well. He was killed in the process, but bought enough time for the troops to get there and block the passage. So he's a hero instead of a coward.

Although, this sounds like one of those situations where the father is a great, powerful leader that everyone looks up to, and so he expects his son to succeed him when he grows up. He pushes his son harder and harder to make him stronger, but his son just isn't up to it and so the father resents the son and son resents the father.

Not a bad man person, just not the nicest guy in the world. Keith is obviously quite cunning in combat though, given that he learned the Wolf sword style just by watching the little sword fighting that Natani and Zen did. Perhaps his father was the kind of person that only valued raw strength and prowess. Doesn't look like that's the case given the lack of the tree stump neck that a person like that would have, but looks can be deceiving.

Just because someone isn't a knowledge general doesn't mean that he isn't intelegent. Keith's father might not have been great at logistics, but he's probably the best person to put in charge in charge of an army (as in the military unit). In other words, he's a Patton, not an Eisenhower or Marshall.

Like Patton, though, he might not have been the most charming of people (while a great commander, he was extremely unlikable at times). There has also been at least one president who was liked by everyone he didn't meet, though I can't remember who it was.

Actually, the fact that Keith was sent after Trace suggests that the circumstances might have been related to the templar. It is possible that Keith's father may have suggested a conflict w/ humanity (as Patton did the Soviets) and Keith protested. This may have sent his father off the wall, especially if this was not an official opinion and Keith caused it to go public.

Geeze, Sage, leading the conversation much? ;)

My initial interpretation of this comic was Keith being bitter that his father was such a jerk, because that's what caused him to be killed, which Keith was framed for, which leads Keith to blame his father's less-than-savory temperament for his exile. Which I think is really pretty straightforward and not original at all, really, so I feel boring.

The idea of another one of the generals offing him is an interesting one...remember, Keith knows the Master General from somewhere, and we still don't know where. Or maybe we're just being messed with by the higher powers (*coughSagecough*).

So. ...yayKeithcentriccomics!!!

This is true, and I figured kind of assumed since I doubt a complete block head with big muscles would be appointed a general of anything. However, what he values says a lot about his tactics. One who values raw power and strength will choose strong arm tactics "shotgun plays" in foot ball. If one values cunning and intelligence then one will probably favor tactics that rely on leading the enemy to false conclusions and attacking them when their guard is down. Or will favor sending in a four-man stealth team to take out the guards and lower the gate in the middle of the night.

Thinking that any of the generals is dumb is underestimating them I think, but each of them obviously has their strengths and it can be assumed that they would like to play to them when possible.
