I use a Wacom Intuos3 9 x 12 tablet.

I'd suggest a Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8 tablet.

hey Tom, you said you have the big 9 x 12, I'm trying to deiced between the 6x11 or the 12x19. I'm only getting started with drawing, but I wanna start on the computer, simply cause I don't have room not too, I have no desk space left, lol.

my PC is setup with 3 20" WSs, I don't have any 4:3 screens anymore, and can't tolerate single screen, too spoiled

If you really want a tablet that works, I would suggest not getting anything smaller then a 6x8. 4x5 and 4x6 is fine, but for any serious work, you need a larger surface area. I started out on a graphire1 4x5, but it was so bad I really couldn't do anything with it. I had to upgrade to a 9x12, which was $450.

Now, I don't think you really need something quite that big. I would actually suggest that you get a 6x8. It's just about the perfect size for the average artist. Small enough to fit on the desk, but large enough to be workable. It's also cheaper. Not that I don't enjoy my big one, I do. :)

I can't tell you how much they cost, the price varies greatly depending on the brand and type. However, I think if you go cheap, you're just wasting your money. That's my personal opinion. You get what you pay for. If you' really want a good one, you might as well plan on spending between 3 and 4 hundred dollars. It wont let you down.

Check out wacom.com - they make good tablets. If you're on a budget, go for the graphires, if your looking for high quality, look at the intuos3's.

A good Graphire4 6x8 is 200 bucks. A great Intuos3 6x8 is 330 bucks.

This might help.

Make sure to maximize the window so it isn't all jumbled up.

I have a Wacom Tablet, but I can't seem to find a decent program to draw in. I dislike Photoshop very much. Does anybody use a different brand?

theres always The Gimp. It is supposed to work with Wacom tablets, and its free, so try it out. Personally I have no tablet, but I can do reasonable stuff with gimp with my cheap $10 mouse...
(Look at my fancolored comics topic - All my work is done in gimp).

Try Paintshop Pro. I have version seven-they're up to ten now-but it's a pretty decent program.

If you dislike photoshop very much you should forget about being a digital artist. Photoshop is the best out there- the only thing that comes close and puts out equivalently and better is Painter- and thats a pain in the butt to learn and master.

Tom uses photoshop, Hawk uses photoshop, Ian uses photoshop, Scott uses photoshop, - everyone worth mentioning uses photoshop along with something else - usually painter.

So- do you dislike it because you dont know how to use it? Or perhaps all the buttons confuse you? Or maybe you dont know about the different brush settings for pressure sensitivity...
