Why is it that when I go to read some new posts in a topic then refresh the board it still says that there are new posts in the topic I just read when nobody posted anything new?

(Edit)
Even this topic is showing up as new to me.

You're not blocking cookies or removing them, or anything like that, are you?

I don't even know what cookies are.

They are both delightful dessert items and little bits of information stored on your computer by many of the sites you visit on the Internets. But if you don't know what they are, you probably aren't blocking them...

When did this problem start happening, ButterBall? Or has it always done this?

Well, it happened once a while ago, I can't really place when. And when I woke up a few hours ago today.

So, no new patches, installs, or people borrowing your computer? Hrm... When was the last time you rebooted it?

Uh, I believe it was either yesterday or the day before... or the day before that.

Give it a restart, and see if that helps any. You never know.

I suppose you've got plenty of hard drive space... I've never encountered a problem like that, so I'm just kind of running through the usual options. Have you tried asking Google yet?

The last time this happened I just logged out then logged back in. At best, it's a temporary fix because when someone posts in the topic it's stuck again.

It certainly seems like some sort of weird cookie issue. Apparently, phpBB3 uses database tables to store read/unread status, so this can't happen under it, but that's not going to help us here.

What browser are you using, ButterBall? Maybe we should just clear the cookies and see if that helps out.

How do I find out?

Edit:
Never mind. I'm pretty sure it's 2.

I don't have my copy of FF2 around any more (upgraded to FF3 and all), so I'm not sure if they clear out the cookies in quite the same way, if you want to try that.

I've seen that happen on a small basis. Like one thread at a time, and revisiting it fixes it.

Try deleting your temporary internet files. Or, you can try the "Mark all topics read" option on the boards. There's also a "Mark all Forums read" one too.
