Here's a simple lesson on copyright laws, If it's not yours, you can't claim it as yours or get money from similar things from it (fan fictions etc.). Doing certain stuff that are copyrighted, require the copyrighted symbol (©). Some people might want information on what you're doing of their copyright material unless it's open to the public, (Disney etc.) thus, doesn't need any permission.

Copyright has become apart of life, it helps the true artist protect their work from stealy evil people. Although, here's a tip from my media teacher, "You can't copyright an idea, but you can copyright the paper which has the idea written on it!"

You can go more in depth than that, but it gets a bit silly. Like, if you want film on someone's land, you need to call them about it, or if a person from the public walks into shot, they need to write down a form saying it's okay for them to be in the video and fine for you to do anything with the footage...

Is this illegal? I want to make a comic like two kinds but only like in the way as in medeval technology/anthros, and i would be looking at tom's keidran for basic support and ideas one like their feet and like some like face stuff like flora's compared to natani's like the nose thing, and also i would probably post it only in these forum (me to poor to pay interwebs site, no job, i play too many sports) but i have no plans on anything more then drawn for fun i mean if it did look get to the point where i could make my own site i would mention that tom's keidran/badstin inspired my anthros.
also sorry for the use of the word anthro if that is frowned upon i have no better word, can't reveal the name of them yet.
Edit:
sorry if i made this confusing.
Double edit:
If it is then i will work the anthro characters myself, which would suck sense tom got my hooked on flora and i would use her image to make my own tiger sense i suck at drawing

Having an anthropomorphic character isn't any kind of copyright infringement. Just don't call them keidren and basitin. If you need references all you need to do is look at basic human anatomy and pictures of cats and dogs and the like and mix the two together.

Couple things to clear up,
If it isn't yours, not only can you not claim it as your own or make money off of it you cant USE it for anything other than personal use, parody, critiquing, and educational use - all of which have many stipulations as to how to use them.

No copyright symbol is required for any copyright protected work (and that is any art, writing, etc that is created- upon creation the work is protected- not registered- but it doesn't need to be - also you can register the art after an infraction is made and use it in court) I is good to add it to your work - but it is not required.

It is true that you cannot copyright a style or pose - however drawing anthros exactly like Toms would draw attention as blatant copying, but its difficult to perfectly copy the style - much less a very bad way to do something in the first place, however the general thing is - they are an anime style anthro - thats it- just as long as it isn't a blatant theft of the work- and is an original work with anthros- its fine. If you want it to be a "Spin off" - you do need Toms permission - and he wont give it to you- he would be crazy to do so.

If you have any questions about copyright you can direct them to me, I have a lot of experience in dealing with it on top of it having been a requirement for my degree.

\ I had no plans to call them keidran of bastin, just i love how tom drew them compared to other creatures of that nature but i guess i will have to work on them some other way, and if not then this will be fanart, with everything changed but style of drawing.

Ok, that will help sage.
And now i am happy i haven't drawn anything but a horible fan art sckech
But now i must wait for the email from tim that i sent him like 3 before i post this thread asking if i could base my creatures off his keidran. This will probably be an anrgy mad email or maybe a polite one saying no but it's all good i guess.
