You don't want to be a mod, it ain't fun. You're expected to do work on the forum, and have to look in threads you really don't want to. I'm perfectly willing to take the bullet of becoming Moderator to save FastChapter the horror.

I spent four years being an unpaid admin for the MultiplayUK (MPUK) forums and active games servers.

Seriously though, disregard that last sentence.

Can I disregard everything else? Again, I'm not asking for a promotion. Read the first post for clarification.

After the disregard I was speaking to people in general, not just you.

Anyway...

I'm going to wager Tom is the only one capable of altering the forum index, seeing as nanaki is MIA. I'll throw him a PM linking him this thread, since it'll otherwise take a few days for him to catch a whiff of activity in the FAQ Board.

Something tells me he's not going to take kindly to this thread.

It's got subtext reading "NEW MOD HIRING."

I've been wondering about this for a while, but why do the admins who have resigned or just gone AWOL for a year or more still have their names listed in the admins to contact under each board? I know Maloo and nanaki both resigned for sure, and Kookookachoo, JTCougar, and ktemkin haven't been around since mid-2007 and as far back as 2005.

I'm wondering why their names are still in the lists of admins to contact. Not to disrespect any of them, but it just seems like confusing clutter. I think if they're not intending to participate as admins, they should simply be removed from the lists leaving only the active admins' names. I mean no disrespect, and hope I don't get rebuffed for asking the question, but shouldn't there be some kind of de-cluttering of the forum index?

I must have missed the line where I suggested we make more mods. Could have sworn this was pointing out the misleading forum index...

Fast, not all this is directed at you ya muppet!

That was in response to the thread title itself. Because most often the resignation of mods leads to a changing of the guard instead of an open seat.

If the forum needed more mods, it would have been brought up in its own thread a year ago when most of them resigned. Again, this is a spring cleaning thread... not an open resume.

Eh it's not that bad...not like you have to be watching 24/7, just occasionally to keep up. It'd be easy for folks who are already on the forums pretty often. As for power abuse...it'll only get you so far, I do admin work for the Army and we had a guy go on a bit of a trip...didn't last long, found out real fast they won't put up with it. Doubt the other mods/admins would tolerate it here. :|

We had an admin on Multiplay who would kick players from servers he was in for giving him any kind of resistance. Usually weren't breaking the rules either, they just openly disagreed with him and he'd boot them. He lasted about a month before the rest of the admins and I voted to have his login and password changed.

Being an admin here wouldn't be something you'd have to stay up night and day for, but you obviously need to be more active than a few sparse postings a week. Even still, what's the worst thing that's happened here not including that Dragoon guy making an account? Some tiffs, threads in the wrong boards, a mountain of spam in the newbie board, but overall nothing major. I'm fairly certain we're fine with our current admins.

You'd only really have to log on maybe like...a few times a day. Like 3 times would probably be enough, just need to have a presence so folks know "Hey, I know someone will be in to check up on this thread, maybe I shouldn't *insert activity that goes against rules here*." . Not really that complex I don't imagine.

Contrary to popular belief, (especially my PM inbox) moderators do not watch the forums 24 hours a day, and do not need to.

Personally, I feel FastChapter would make an excellent moderator for the newbie board, all arguments and misunderstanding of the thread title aside.

XD

What kind of stuff you you get PM'd about? Besides issues with sigs and whatnot?

I'd support Fast if it wasn't for the fact that he'd get mad at me for assisting the topic-turnaround. >__>

Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence, Yash. I'm a bit dumbstruck, XD

I receive many, many PMs abut a large amount of different subjects, most asking me to perform actions that I cannot do, (such as banning users) asking me to tell Tom or Sage to change random aspects of the forum, or to complain about topics being locked/deleted. It is quite surprising to see how many users think I moderate all the boards, or am an Administrator.

Your activity level and experience on the forum suits the Newbie board's needs quite well.
