First off, I never understood the romanticism of vampires. In all honesty, I've always portrayed them as blood sucking abominations. Kinda like a 30 days of night sort of thing. So for a contemporary lit analysis I've read a good portion of twilight, and I felt like I wanted to throw up a little.

Monsters are monsters! They feed off of human beings, and that's it.

If I lived for an eternity, I'm pretty sure I could find someone else. Not ponder thinking "Hmm, her blood is quite tasty. However, I wish to not kill her so that I may partake in the face sucking."

Oh, like we've NEVER heard of a forbidden love before. Seriously, if I had that kind of power, I wouldn't think twice of draining a girl like Bella of all of her delicious life sustaining blood. Its what vampires do.

Maybe I hate things that get over hyped. Its probably why I haven't finished Harry Potter. But at least Harry Potter was original at the beginning, this is just feeding the emo masses of America.

Seriously, am I overreacting?

I only hate it because no matter where I go, people don't shut up about how good it is or how much they like it or whatnot. Seriously, you stick two girls together who don't have anything better to talk about and 90% of the time someone's going to bring up Twilight, and then the noise level in the room just goes up. Does not help with the **** I already put up with in Japanese...
It also bugs me when people are talking about one of the main characters (who I share a name with). I keep doing double-takes.

Before today, I've only met two types of people: Those who liked Twilight, and those who haven't read it. I'm one of the latter myself, and because of that I can't really say I hate Twilight as a piece of literature (if I'm allowed to call it that), but I have no intention of reading it.

As have I, but many teenagers who've had 'acceptance' issues like to use such things as comparisons for themselves.

"Just like the Vampire that in truth is only misunderstood, I as well am only misunderstood."

Only thing I disliked there was how fast infection spread, but otherwise a very good type of vampire.

Most 'popular' novel series most often purchased by High School students do that to me when I try to read them.

And occasionally other beings along with said humans, but the human diet part is important.

Logic, in the Twilight Series? Watch out for the rabid fans, they'll lynch ya.

Just make sure that she don't bite back. Nothing worse than creating an unwitting Vampire. Unless they become your thrall, of course. Then at least you have cheap labor.

Beware, some series that are overhyped are still quite good. Not the best, but still good.

No, Twilight is too popular for what it adds to the market.

I plan to read the book, considering that every other person in my school will probably have read it soon. At first it was just every girl in the school who seemed to have read it, and I thought that maybe I could get away with not reading it, even though usually I really enjoy reading. But then half the guys in my honors english class started reading the book, and in an effort to not be left out of the whole epidemic which this book seems to be, I'll have to read it. On a similar note...... I enjoy the manga Rosario+Vampire, so maybe I'll enjoy this book.

If you want some book series to read, I recommend:

1) Hyperion Cantos - Some good Sci-Fi Space Opera. You'll love Martin Silenus, also. And most of the Forum would love the Ousters.
2) Halo novels besides "The Flood" - I make this note because of the differing author. But for the most part these were enjoyable books.
3) Eisenhorn Trilogy - Another Sci-Fi novel, similarly non-Hard. Has a few dark moments, but for the most part an enjoyable by all read.

From what I've heard, the "A Song of Fire and Ice" series is a good fantasy novel to read as well.

Of the above four, only two I think can count as 'popular'. None of which I can think of with Mary Sues [Though again I have not read #4], nor storylines borrowed from any major modern novels [Albiet the Hyperion Cantos borrows some from the Canterbury Tales], nor is a giant romance novel with fantasy chucked in.

I am a major Mercedes Lackey fan. I fell into her books while looking for something with strong female leads. I recommend any and all of her books.

I especially enjoyed "Tiger Burning Brightley" it was a joint venture by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Anne MacCaffrey, and Mercedes. I've about worn my copy out.

Oh yes. It's very good. I am reading the second book myself at the moment, and I strongly reccomend the series.

Right now I'm reading a few different books. I felt like it was time to go into some of the classics. So I'm juggling Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

I also enjoyed the Discworld stories, by Terry Pratchett. I've read a lot of fantasy. Anne McCaffrey , Tolken. Surprisingly I do like the Inheritance saga by Christopher Paolini.

Other then that some of my favorite books have to be The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Talisman, by Stephen King and Peter Straub, and of course anything in the Cthulhu Mythos.

mm....probably not. Imagine if everyone was gender flipped, morons, and not funny or awesome.

I'm miffed at a few things:
Bella and Edward take up almost the entire first book, with no other plots arriving..
..when a villain arrives, he might as well have been a giant space flea from nowhere..
..and that the totally epic fight between superbeings happened OFFSCREEN, so we only got to see Bella get curbstomped.

EPIC FAIL.

The book is more of a "meh" in my opinion, but the fangirls make it worse.

Discworld is quite good...I got in with Carpe Jugulum. EVIL BISHIE! RUN PERDITA, RUN!

The old kingdom books are also nice.

Thou must read Soul Music, Reaper Man, and Witches Abroad. There is another Witches book, but I can't for the life of me remember the name. It has bits of MacBeth entwined in the story, along with a hint of Hamlet. The witches save their own kingdom from a bad brother usurper. How they manage it is hilarious. Along with new meanings for old words.
