No it's meant to make sense, it's just that the band is... fairly popular, XD

Carrot Juice Is Murder

technically the war ended with a stalemate because Britain had more important things to do (See: fighting Napoleon) and we couldn't really stop them from blockading the eastern seaboard and basically doing whatever they wanted also.... british parliment has never been burnt down...

EDIT** the song is TECHNICALLY correct because it is the only war that America considers itself having lost, despite the fact that the Armistice after nam only lasted for 3 days until the entire country was conquered and Korea is a sort of crazy story since no peace was technically ever reached.

Sorry this is a little off-topic, but I felt a need to respond.

Why do people say "we won" wars that said people weren't even around for? Do people (not accusing you or anyone else specifically of this) just like to take credit for other people's victories, or to feel a kinship with those who actually did "win" said war?

I never "won" the war of 1812, or the American War of Independence, or the Civil War, or the World Wars, or any other wars, and I'm glad that I didn't have to participate in them.

If by "won" you mean "Get our [censored] handed to us" then yes, we won. We won hardcore.

The wars the U.S. has had with Britain ended with Britain saying "oh, screw this." and leaving. America was a third-world country then.

Obviously, but even then that's a "country" that fought that war a long time ago. Do countries not change over time? And why do people feel that way anyway, to the point where they would say such things?

the final battle of the war was in new orleans. the british lost BADLY!
ALSO! the british didnt get involved in the war that much until AFTER they were done fighting napoleon.

the british should have won this war easily. they had the best army, the best navy, the most training. and they fought america, which at the time had no experience with war (all of the leaders from the revolutionary war had already died or became to old to play an important role as a leader) not to mention the fact that the size difference was enormous. and british troops were already well trained from fighting napoleon.

and dont say that the british gave up, alot of british officers hated america and wanted to take it back over as another part of britan. also, alot of britans were pissed at the fact that we burnt down the parliment.
baisically, we beat the worlds greatest army (at the time) twice.

I need to recheck my facts here...why do people keep talking about Parliament being burnt down? The only thing that was burnt down in the War of 1812 was the White House, and the British did that...
O.o

*Checks*
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...the parliament building in York (Toronto) CANADA...

I learned a lot from reading up on this...I never knew that it turned out to be a war between the US and Canada (used as a British staging ground, really)...as well as a war with the Native Americans...and that the war was essentially caused by a British blockade of the US due to the fact that the Americans were trading with the French, who England was currently at war with (yes, the two wars did overlap)...

Good to know!

Ooh, I learned about the war of 1812 last year. I don't remeber a lot of it, except that it was probably the most unimportant war ever, considering the fact that nothing changed because of it, and no one technically won the war. Oh wait, there was one incredibly important thing, and that was this actual quote from a military commander during one of the battles:

"Raise your guns a little lower."

except it showed the world what america can do, oh and it got the british off our coasts, AND if we would have lost, we would have become a british nation again. (not to mention the battle of ft. McHenry inspired the "star spangled banner")

Wait... are you saying that the war is the reason that I'm not speaking in a cool accent and I have to day-dream my way through that anthem during school assemblys?
