I've done some research on the subject and felt I should bring it up here.

And what, precisely, is the debate about?
Anonymous vs Scientology leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Exactly where I am coming from here, I am really not sure what to discuss regarding this without a little more of a prompt.

I mean when you are talking about Anonymous Vs Scientology, are you talking about a particular event? Or the whole deal? Personally the first thing that comes to mind for me is the Anon hack of Palin even though that is not Scientology related.

I honestly could not care less about either group...

...and an actual topic for discussion would have been nice...

I feel that Scientology is a cult, that it is dangerous to its followers, and that it is total nonsense.

But I do not feel we should destroy it because of such. Why? What do you think was said about many other religions around their origins? Though I do believe it is in dire need of reform, it should not be tax-exempt in its current state, etc.

Since this is what the majority of Anonymous that has remained is going for, I agree with them here.

I actually have to do an oral report about Scientology in my communications class... which will be interesting... but I have dug up a few things that people should find interesting.
Here is some of the stuff I put down on an email to a friend who asked me what I found....
No I'm not a scientologist

First off the creator of Scientology was named L. Ron Hubbard before he made the church of scientology he was a science fiction writer just keep that in mind when you're going through the other stuff

the youtube video of the comicbook version of "scientology history"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKhUnfezLH0

Here are a few articles about related scientology topic
"Thetan" (read it all to make better sense of the above video)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thetan

An article about the leader himself L. Ron Hubbard
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._Ron_Hubbard

His wife (She was imprisoned on a misson for the "church"... it was called Operation: Snow white")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue_Whipp

Operation "Snow white"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White

Operation "Freak out"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Freakout

"OTIII - Xenu

OT III Scientologists are finally brainwashed enough to learn the tale of Xenu. Xenu, the galactic tyrant, was fed up with the overpopulation of many planets in his galaxy. However, he had a clever plan. With the aid of evil psychiatrists, Xenu drugged and froze hundreds of billions of his citizens for interstellar transport."The cost of reaching OT III is only $360,000. Central to the OTIII mythology is alien past lives

Article on xenu
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenu

also OTIII and the other levels of scientology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OTIII

Tom Cruise's Scientology video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFBZ_uAbxS0

An "Anonymous" response to scientology
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ

After having gone through all of this myself I have to agree that Scientology is pretty out there, and I happen to agree with Anonymous that it is sort of taking advantage of peoples faith in a subject. I'm also of the opinion that people are allowed to believe whatever they want so minus the part where they have to pay for their faith it works for me.

What kind of religion is Anonymous?

Bunch of people mulling around with blank nametags and bags over their heads, greeting one another as Brother John Doe and Sister Jane Doe? "Let us pray to our savior, Unknown Caller."

Yes, yes my mistake I was wasn't thinking clearly there. As for my position I support Project Chanology.

Also, the hacking of Palin was perpetrated by a single hacker unaffiliated with Project Chanology. From the articles I've read I don't see how people could get the idea that Anonymous was involved in any way. The perpetrator even stated that he had dumped the info on the forums for fear of being caught by the FBI and that things snowballed from there. Wikileads stated that it got the information from people claiming to be "activists loosely affiliated" with Anonymous, though they may just pranksters "getting their lulz" by rattling Palin's cage. Perhaps the Church of Scientology had a hand in spreading that rumor. It wouldn't be the first time the church has released false information to better it's own image by way of the Fair Game Policy which states that enemies of the church "May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed."

Continuing where casterclass left off, I have a few more articles to show everyone.

The official Anonymous website, it has a great deal of information about the Church of Scientology.
http://www.whyweprotest.net

The "revered voice to many members of Anonymous" and Wise Beard Man, Mark Bunker.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Bunker
http://www.youtube.com/user/xenutv1

An Anonymous press release.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ri5RcN1J8k&feature=user

The truth will be laid bare. I only hope that this comes to a peaceful resolution.

P.S. Fastchapter, this is not a laughing matter! This is serious stuff here.

Anonymous is a group of users on 4chan who post anonymously. They are generally [censored], stalkers, and you do NOT want to piss them off. Responsible for so many memes it's not even funny.

it's like two supervillains fighting each other. The part of Anonymous going after scientology, though, is a lot nicer than the church. And they get win points for being nerds.

L. Ron Hubbard said the best way to make money is to start a religion. And, oh look, that's what he did. I've read the intro from Dianetics and it's hilarious. I haven't read many books but it seemed poorly written like some twelve year old wrote it and thought 'yeah, that's sounds cool.' Scientology is dangerous.

Actually there are two factions within Anonymous. Project Chanology, the protest against Scientology; and The Internet Hate Machine, the immature pricks that get their kicks by raising hell, but they are not the majority.
