These are just a list of thigns and a video of one of them happening.A black hole.Though the way they showed the black hole is actually VERY unrealsitic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1vKisef ... ost/191802

dont be scared though the chances of any of theseh appening is 1 in a million

So it is possible. But its also very VERY unlikely. One thing that freaks me out.

is there risking the world and Possibly the very fabric of physics just to prove there right because they re-created the big bang..

I dont give a crap if the big bang made humanity I JUST WANNA LIIIIIVE!!

actually, it's less than that. The chances of destroying the universe or world are "possible, but so tiny that we don't care, and you're more likely to get hit by a car. Three times. While on fire."

And this thread is redundant. See "Gordon Freeman At LHC"

I like that Large Hardon Collider motivational poster. Can't show it cause it's dirty. =3

They were bound to happen, given LHC's name.

It can still happen Theres a 1-1000000000000000000000000000000 chance you can win the lottery. And that still happens.

Theres 1000's of possibilites of what can happen with that thing. Were talking about the laws of nature here. Not somone coming up with evolution.

I wonder if they give an extra day-off that day, just because there might be the end of the world.

Or would that raise the panic even more?

Look the laws of physics won't break down because of the Lhc Particle accelerator, because of improbability factors of quantum mechanics in all likely hood when they do go to collied the protons they'll miss and/or pass right through each other. Even when they do eventually collide the information obtained will be worth any risk they might of took doing it.

And even if there is a quantum singularity formed it would be too small to do much of anything other than sit there, or drift off. It wouldn't be anywhere near powerful enough to affect anything as large as us.

True but still there are other risks. One misplacement. One single off-quarter program. And boom ANYTHING could happen.A explosion the size of 50 nukes?A stranglet? And very very very highly doubtley a black hol able to eat the earth.*doubtful*

They already started accelerating the protons we'll find out maybe 1 and a half months maybeh.

Well the thing is most black holes that are created in the atom smashing are smaller than the average atom so it's pretty difficult for them to grow when there isn't anything for them to consume (not to mention the vast amounts of space between everything means the chances are even smaller) for example if you were to travel from the electron in an atom to the nucleus it would be a longer relative trip than us going to another solar system.

The chance is similar to that of your hand passing through a wall because the electrons/atom happen to align in such a way that would allow it (statistically speaking if you waited for an infinite amount of time you would only start to have an amazingly low chance of that) So basically I'm with Stephen Hawking on this one, I'll put 100 bucks on the fact that the world will not be destroyed... any takers?

How convenient. If you're right, you make money, and if you're wrong, we'll all be too dead for it to matter.

...

I take you on! Not really I am too poor. D:
