I don't usually have high expectations for any new shows and this one is no different. But for the sake of having an open mind and it being more my genre I'll try to check it out.

Now, now. He's jumping the shark early on, like he did with lost. Lost is awesome. Who's to say that fringe won't also be awesome?

Jumping The Shark is the defining moment when an established show changes in a significant manner in an attempt to stay fresh. Ironically, that moment makes the viewers realise that the show has finally run out of ideas. It has reached its peak, it will never be the same again, and from now on it's all downhill.

Yeah... he's pretty much saying the show will run out of ideas early on and grind itself into the ground, much akin to how a drill would. Okay, I'm paraphrasing there, but that's about it.

watched some of it today. Saddened by how god-awfully predictable the parts I saw were.

(camera opens on a lab hallway.)
"Yep, they're evil."
(evil music sounds, lady with black leather gloves walks up.)
"Told you."

I don't think that "jumping the shark" was the correct turn, but i highly enjoy lost, and i do think that if a show starts out with tons of twists and a high amount of turns, it is good, where as a tv series that starts with a normal type of development starts doing that, it starts being untrue to itself and that (usually) =/= good.
