Who here in the Forum watches the anime series Full Metal Alchemist, and what do watch it in, Japanese with English subtitles or just plain old English (Which sounds really weird once you've seen the Jap-Eng version).

Shouldn't this be in Media? Anyway...
I've only just started watching it barely a week ago and, as far as I know, I really like it. I've only seen about 5 episodes but I make sure that it's always Japanese, not dubbed. I know that dubbed anime are often slightly off and sometimes get cencored.

For you own sakes...NEVER, EVER listen to English dubs if you can help it...

Excepting the 6 episode show IRIA, they are almost entirelyincomparably WORSE than the Japanese voices.

If you want to know how terrible it can be...watch Lost Universe in English...

Oh God, the horror... T_T

CURSE YOU INTERNATIONAL CHANNEL FOR THAT TRAVESTY!

Seems like some of you are pathetically missguided...

Sometimes- believe it or not - dubs arent bad. Go ahead and give the dub a try. Cowboy Bebop? There are many animes that have decent dubs-- and theres nothing wrong with that. However there are horrible dubs, which you should avoid. If you have a choice- Watch both-- if you cant stand one watch the other-- and if you do watch it Dub-- go ahead and turn on the subtitles for the japanese with it-- that way you can see what they are "really" saying and decide if it matches up well enough.

Dont go around saying "Oh Dubs are better because reading is tough" or "Dubs suck because they dont sound like they are Japanese"

the Japanese Subtitles are most often more percise in their translation-- sometimes they dont make sense in english and the information about it isnt given either- but they have more hits than misses.

The Dub is often fitted to a more English way of speaking. You can look away for a bit and still know whats going on without learning how to speak Japanese. Problem is the dub sometimes changes things too much or they mispronounce things. More Misses than hits but still worth giving it a try. While you may prefer the Japanese if you are watching it while doing something else and the dub isnt that bad why not watch the dub? Only reason you wouldnt really is because it makes your ears bleed... like the love hina anime dub...

I like it in english. I'm not a big fan of the voices in Japanese they sound weird to me, and I'm not a big fan of staring at words while I watch a show. ^_^

FMA is awesome as far as I can tell. I think I've seen the entire series when it aired on Adult Swim, haven't gotten a chance to watch the Japanese version yet. I personally like dubbed versions better, but I do have a lot of anime that is subbed. It doesn't really matter to me though, as long as it's still good. :D

I watch it in Japense with the English subtitles, I have seen the dubbed eps... And I just suddenly relised hwo horridly wrong I spelt Japanese.

I have one bad occurance with Eng dubs, (there is a very small amount of anime in my area) watching the movie the Steamboy, Best Anime movie ever, there was so much dialogue cut of the subtitles, good thing its in english. Most of the time I keep the subtitles on when watching movies.

Personnally, I found that, although Al's voice was pretty well done in the english dub, just about every english dub is junk. I just find that Japanese voice actors take their jobs more seriously, more like live action actors than just voices for animations. This may not always be true, but having had a chance to compare the two, I find the dramatic and well-spoken japanese voices with english subtitles to be infinately preferable to the often sloppy english dubs. Just my two cents. Make that one, Im on a budget.
