You heard correctly, the hip-hop thread.

I know that pretty much every single one of you is quick to discard rap and hip-hop as some second-rate genre that isn't worth your time. All you have to do is stop listening to what they play on the freaking radio, and look harder. :D

Here are great places to start looking:

Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force
Mix Master Mike
DJ Q-bert
Grandmaster Flash
Def Cut

Well... I listen to Will Smith's music. That counts as hip-hop/rap, right?

That's ok. I give up :P

Listen to anything as long as you enjoy it. However, it wouldn't do any of you any harm to go a little deeper and really explore whatever genre of music you find interest in, beyond the artists that are currently most prominent. That's when you'll really find the stuff you love, if you appreciate the music itself, and not just how famous the artist happens to be.

Jay-Z rocks. ^_^ I like some 50-cent, and I especially loved the Jay-Z/LP Collision Course Album. I've never realy heard much of Will Smiths stuff though.

I'm glad to see some enthusiasm for hip-hop. However, rap is merely a (important) part of hip-hop. Besides producers and solo artists (who might make like one track 'featuring' something else, and then part ways until maybe six months later when they record a track with the same person), there are actual bands, like the Black Eyed Peas (despite the insane amount of press they recieve they still have integrity), and the Beastie Boys, who actually played their own instruments on occasion back in the day.

In addition, there is a whole ton of instrumental hiphop to enjoy. Skratching artists like DJ Qbert take records and turntables and transform them into freaking musical instruments. Any DJ that claims to be a DJ had better be able to mix. If he can skratch (with skill), then he's a musician.
