Hopefully some of you have heard of Dwarf Fortress, it's a game of seriousness, limitlessness, and of course, severed children's heads.

Search Dwarf Fortress on Google. It's fun.

I'm serious!

I managed to kill a dragon with a small conglomerate rock. xD

The Spinning Conglomerate rock hits the dragon in the head!
The Dragon's head explodes into a lump of gore!

I then proceeded to give it a cremation and kept it's skull as a memoir.

I remember there was a topic about Dwarf Fortress a while ago.
but it's in the next page, so you're safe.

I got my eye slashed out.
I managed to kill eight wolves, but one got lucky and got my eye.

Good news is I can now gouge out eyeballs.

REVENGE!

Well, this is confusing. I downloaded it, but I have no idea what I'm doing. Needs to have like, a tutorial instead of just a manual.

It takes a while to get used to the icons and controls, but soon you'll be able to do this.

You hack at the Hydra with your scimitar!
The Hydra's lung is pierced!
You grasp the Hydra's throat with your right hand!
You Strangle the hydra!
You throw the Hydra by the neck!
The Hydra hits an obstacle and blows apart!
Hydra Struck down!

The cougar's head sails off in a bloody arc.
You pick up the cougar's head.
The spinning cougar's head hits the child in the lower body!
It explodes in a lump of gore!

You hack at the Macelord with your scimitar!
His head is split from his crown to his chin!
Macelord struck down.

you can also kill a demon by chucking bushels of water at them.

It reminds me somewhat of nethack.

which isn't fair, because nethack can end much more brutally. Like having all your items stolen by a nymph and then getting killed by a mummy. On level five.

Out of 111.

But I might get this "Dwarf Fortress".

You just have to have the right skills, not go after Mega-beasts (dragons and otherwise) until you can actually kill off a pack of wolves, and get lucky for your first couple of fights and quests.

A note of warning. Don't do Dwarf Fortress mode unless you think you have the mechanics down. I died.

Adventure mode's simpler.

I just killed a wolf with the corpse of another wolf and a chunk of my own flesh. This is awesome. I feel like Brock [censored] Samson.

Although my wounds don't seem to be healing and I can't stand up. How can I fix this?

Also; How do I get back into a town?

I barely do. So very confusing.
EDIT: So I tried stealing a copper scimitar. But I couldn't figure out how to equip it, and I got attacked by a guard. I could almost hear the "STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM."

I could have killed him (I pierced his chest with my sword) but an iron crossbow bold came out of NOWHERE. I don't even know who fired it.

Question: How do I equip a new weapon?

*Erhem* Look for basic controls in keybindings by pressing ?.
Seriously, different keys have different functions if you hold shift then press it.

T is travel.
When on Travel map, press > to enter a new area. <> also works for staircases.

To equip something in your hand you must (g)et it , (p)ut weapon A in the bag, and press remove and remove the copper scimitar.

All other functions can be found in the key bindings menu via ?.
You can even change em if you want.

To scroll menus, press /* for left to right and -+ for up and down.

And Sefris, the reason your wounds weren't healing is because they got perma-crippled (torn off completely) or you just need time for it to go away. (Quick Travel works)

Flying Iron Bolts can come from a ranger. I hate those buggers. makes slaughtering cities hard.

Hopefully this will make things easier for those having trouble.

Also, read Boatmurdered. It's a log of a Dwarf Fortress game. Quite an interesting read.
