Has anyone else here ever used Valve's Hammer tool that comes with the source SDK? I've been playing with it a bit lately. It's actually a lot easier to use than I thought it would be. If anyone else uses it, post some of the maps you've made here! And if you have any tips for aspiring mapmakers, do share. :D

Here's an ep2 map I made after about 30 minutes of tweaking:

I warn you, it's irritatingly simple. I'm working on a good TF2 map now.

That would be cool. Out of curiosity, do BSP files contain their own textures or do they get them from the game files?

So you want someone to model a giant Flora laying down so you can run around on her setting up sentries on her boobies?

Sage, you have a very weird mind.
VERY.
I was thinking more along the lines of everyone having to ride on trains with comics painted onto them.

So everyone prefers an enormous map of Flora in space where you can go around the entire body, and put sentries onto the boobies.
Eh, whatever. But I ain't making it.

I ain't touching that map with a forty foot pole. Not after having played CS on cs_porn.

I used to use Hammer for CS, but I think I was only nine at the time and didn't have a clue as to how to use it. At the time textures came from WAD files, so if you made your own textures or WAD files, the people downloading the map would have to download that as well. It could have changed by now though.

I kinda like the sound of a 2kinds map. Like maybe inside one of the Templar towers (I forgot what they were called specifically).

Also, I like ButterBall's idea better than Sage's.

No one said in space- that's silly, on a grassy field!

After doing a bit of research on Valve's dev wiki I found my answer. You can pack custom textures into the BSP, but you have to do it with a separate app.
