This is an instruction manual for getting patches for the Japanese Cabal Online to work in English, which means no monthly fee. The Japanese admins (as far as I know) have taken no action to English players on the Japanese server, so everything’s good. Also, there’s a big English-speaking community (on Mercury Channel 7), so you shouldn't be surrounded by people speaking a language you don’t understand.
Step 1: Instructions for installing Asian languages for XP and all versions of Vista.
If your computer doesn’t have Asian Languages installed, your game will crash at start-up.
Windows XP:
Go to control panel-> Regional and language options: Languages tab
Check Install files for east Asian languages. Click Apply and install (may need windows CD)
Click NO to reboot
Then go to Advanced tab and check Japanese
Reboot
Windows Vista Enterprise and Ultimate, or Basic/Home Premium if you have an LIP (Language Inference Pack- Sorry, I don't know how to get these yet.):
Go to control panel-> "Regional and language options" with Classic View, "Clock, Language, and Region; change keyboards or other input methods" for Control Panel Home. Under Display Language, click install/uninstall languages, and follow the steps, set it to Japanese (I don’t have Enterprise, Ultimate, or an LIP pack, so these are the best instructions I can give for you.)
You can sorta play without an LIP with Basic/Home Premium, by going to the Administrative tab under Regional and language options (or whatever) and changing the language to Japanese. However, apparently this isn't totally accurate, and the game will still crash at certain menus (as I've seen so far, Options and Jukebox.) These are not essential, but it's still pretty annoying. I suggest getting an LIP pack.
Step 2: Download+Installation
Download the downloader here:

run it. Install it. It's in Japanese, so just keep clicking the next button (the one with the arrow pointing right) on the installer.
Step 3: Getting an account
Create an account here:

Run the cabal updater and update the game. Now you’ve got it! In Japanese. We’re going to fix that right now.
Step 4: Playing the game in English.
Instructions: Download the patch

C:\Program Files\Gamepot\CABAL Online\Data
and copy all those folders there.overwrite whatever it asks you to. The Japan Data file is there to fix the game, in case the patch screws it up. (I think that deletes the patch, so I don't know how to help you if that happens.) Do the same with this patch-

Most of those who are playing are playing on the Last server (Mercury) on channel 7.
PS: There's a couple things I'd like to know- One, has anyone gotten Cabal to work on Mac OS X? I'd like to add that in if it's possible. Two, anyone know how to get and install an LIP pack?
