It's might seem like I'm being really mean here (it's all meant as constructive criticism), but those aren't that good. Not enough to
warrant the reactions they've recieved until now.
The reason I say this is because they're nearly direct copies from panels in the
20040107,
20040114, and
20040820 comics.
Not to mention the fact that the artwork is... well... generally flawed. You don't seem to be that experienced, as evidenced by the
fact that the few places where you couldn't copy Tom's artwork seem to consist of a few straight lines and little more.
The first picture you spliced the 4th and 9th panels of the 20040107 comic together. It's decent for a copy-by-eyeballing attempt,
but the dividing point between the two panels (Flora's neck) shows a lack of knowledge of anatomy. Necks aren't cylinders.
Instead of completely copying Flora chasing the butterfly in the second picture, you instead drew her right arm hanging limply at
her side in an unnaturally stiff position, while copying the left arm and replacing the butterfly with a yo-yo. The filled in legs are
also in an extremely awkward, if not impossible position.
The picture of Keith isn't bad... at least the face isn't. Though instead of drawing his left hand entangled with his hair, you seem
to have attempted to convey the left arm as being stretched out perpendicular to his spine. Severely awkward position, even for
someone lying down. The whole picture exhibits the "standing on a flat line" problem commonly exhibited among beginners.
There's a lot more, but I really don't feel like going into detail. I can't really assess your artistic talent without seeing freehanded,
non-referenced drawings. I know it's tempting to attempt to copy/emulate the art from your favorite comics/shows, but you really
shouldn't. Even if you do become adept at emulating them, it really does nothing more than set you back because while you may
have learned to copy their style, you don't possess the knowledge to put the characters into new positions and situations. It's
better to start off at the beginning (even if it seems boring) and work your way towards developing your own style. You'll be
thankful you did.
