Dude, just get PS. Paint Shop Pro is exactly the same thing but worse. Anyways, Photoshop CS2 is probably the latest out there.

and techically balmung I heared that in Paint Shop Pro, has certain things that Photoshop doesn't, plus photoshop is far too expensive *Points at PS CS 2* way too much...........

Paintshop Pro = Cheap crap
Photoshop CS2 = Industry State of the art Level Digital coloring/painting/creation/editing program.
Yes it costs a lot-- you should research your info first--- your idea of rich is not "Photoshop rich" :P

GIMP is free but not as good - free and open source never means better unless you really cant afford or find a way to get Photoshop.

If you want 2 great programs you want Painter and Photoshop - though painter can be very complex it provides some amazing effects and options that mimic real life mediums such as wet paint, dry brush painting, crayon, etc - Photoshop can simulate some effects but normally its cleaner and has TONS of effects and options to edit and create with.

Either way-- Photoshop wins-- if you were really "rich" Photoshop and Painter-- as well as a new top of the line PC would help a lot :P

(and dont forget the Tablet-- if you dont have a tablet forget painter and Photoshop wouldnt be nearly as good)

I heard that Photoshop CS2 is for professionals and that sort. Not for beginners. I have Photoshop Elements 4.0. I haven't been able to sit down yet for very long since I got it for x-mas. I'll probably get more into it once I hook up my scanner. Thats what I know. Elements highly recomended to me by friends and my tech teacher for those who like to edit photos, work with drawings, making slideshows and cards, ect. Go with Sage though on the Tablet. I don't have a clue what it is exactly, only that people like Sage and Tom use it. They are the people making high quality drawings, not me

Oh, and Elements is $99 and if you buy it through Adobe you can get a student discount

That is the WORST thing you could do. (Yes I know, I'm still around, I'm just waiting for my leaving thread to die off to actually leave. XD) In most areas(I don't know about britain but this is true for most of the US) That would constitute Grand Theft as well as a host of other software theft related charges. Not being able to afford it does NOT give you the right to steal it.

OpenCanvas V1 is a good FREE alternative, granted it has quite a few missing features, it's better than nothing and you can session with friends online.

Open Canvas is a nice little program-- its great for tablet work-- it has layers, and you can get decent effects with it if you know how to use it-- its all traditionally done though-- no cheating with filters and such- definately good for tablet work as it has settings that use pen preasure for size of the brush as well as Opacity which is key for drawing on the computer.
