It uses unnecessary disk space(?) and bandwidth, and it is just too much. You wouldn't hit 3 pages without spam.

a forum is nothing without a little spam. it is like fat, it looks bad in excess, but add a bit of energy when you need it. Besides we all need a little fat. and spam in the case of forums.

ANYway, I think it's a good thing since lost of the "hello"s end up into a spam contest in a way. But it's unfair to the ones that don't....
