It's something that's been tearing me apart on the inside for a week...

what's gonna happen next? i mean like... we study, get a job, have a family if we want to... then... we die. i know it's stupid, but even if we live on in heaven or stuff like that? what's gonna happen in a million million or even a googleplex(a google is 1 followed by a hundred zeros, a googleplex is 1 followed by a google of zeros) years... yeah, i've been told by my parents that it's stupid and that it's not worth thinking, but everything i've ever liked, treasured and loved would be long gone by then and i feel sort of scared of that. should i just stop thinking about it? is it really not worth thinking?

It's worth it to think on it. It's worth it to realize your views on it, but regardless of your what you deiced, you must accept that.

If you dwell constantly on what will happen to what you love you will have no time life to enjoy it while it's still here.

Personally, I think the future is beyond our comprehension. Before the internet, how many people other than it's creator went, "Hey, I have an idea. What about a system that would link every part of the world and allow sharing of ideas on a global scale. I could do this by....". I don't think we yet understand what the future could hold.

I truly believe all the things that make life worth living will be there for us in Heaven. What would be the point in having us grow and mature and LEARN if there will be no task or use for such things? We will have a purpose, and it will be a purpose that suits us.

Does that help?

Ah...Michelle's quandry sounds very much like the same one that has kept me awake nights for most of my life...it all seems pretty pointless, no?
o.o

It seems that the two options are:

- Live forever, with increasingly less and less to do...
- Poof into nothingness, making this life essentially pointless...

Yay!

*Goes back to distracting self with day-to-day mundane concerns*

I don't know what's waiting for us after we die. And I can see what you mean, my greatest fear in life is to be forgotten when I'm gone. But hey, when I start thinking about that, I either have a good cry over it in the shower, or go here. Or hey, maybe both, but due to electricity's reaction to running water, I would suggest that you don't do both simultaneously... =^.^=

It's a common question. People have been thinking about it since they've been aware of themselves.

There's a load of options:

-A big meaningless void, of which you are aware and reside if for the next of eternity.

-You are judged according a certain set of rules and either go to a good, happy place or a dark place where you are unhappy or tortured or whatever.
Several religions have this in one degree or another. someonly have the good place, some only have the judgement (think ancient egypt), some have both. In some places also a kind of purgatory.

- you are born again and your previous actions decide in what you reincarnate: Karma and Svadharma.

- you die are returned to the grand scale of things and a certain part of you is reborn in something else.

- Your awarness ends. Thats it. Just turning off the lights.

-You die and according to the experiences of your soul, you either are reborn again, you stay behind as a ghost, or the journey of your soul ends since it has learned enough and it dies as well.

I'd say pick one you like, invent your own and stop worrying about it. If you're worrying about afterlife judgement or some such, keep living like you believe a good human being should. As long as you're sure that you've made the right decision, it won't be held against you.
While we're at it: don't second guess wether it was the right thing to do. Just go enjoy life.

Everyone knows what comes after death! Mountains of hickory smoked ham, all to myself...

Mmm....

I'm not to sure on this issue, but here's the side I'd most likely believe. I believe that, if one lives a good, just life, one will get into the best of places, whether one worships a god or not. I believe that the truly bad ones go to a painful place, where they suffer until they can redeem themselves in some way or another, then move on to the middle place to await another chance at life, and another chance to get into the good place. That's what I believe in a nutshell.

I don't know what to tell you. If your soul lives on forever, eventually, everything will grow stale, or maybe it won't. I can't tell you how much I enjoy just sitting outside, not even thinking, just sitting there, barely even watching... If eternity means that I can watch the world forever like that... I think I'll be happy. It'd probably make me happy if everyone I've grown to care about was there too. Either or. Even better if both!

Then again, I'm weird.

I've decided... i don't think it's worth thinking because time will never reach eternity, i think eternity only exists in one's true happiness. I'm kinda glad i posted this thought up here, it takes away the loneliness. Also, even if time goes on forever or not, i think we all have a choice whether to be happy or not, regardless of when or where, it's just a matter of attitude.

Now come to think of it... i think in heaven i'll see Himura kenshin, Ino Yamanaka, Naruto, Bridget, Pikachu, Keitaro Urashima, Negi Springfield and the two that i treasure the most... Trace and Flora. All the other webcomic characters and even marvel and DC comics can come along if they want. Then we'll have fun forever.

Yup, I'm a kid. Now I can put the matter to rest.

That's what I always hope.

What goes on after death?

I don't know, and I really couldn't care less. Odds are that there is nothingness, but that is not something to fear. If there is nothing, than we will realize nothing in return. If there is reincarnation, the same is usually a staple belief. A Heaven and Hell, my destination is unknown and will remain so until death. A dream like state is a dream-like state.

Death is not something to fear. If you die, you die. The religious fears we cause ourselves are from our own attempted explanations for a universe we have not been able to fully comprehend even after 12000+ years of writing, science, civilization, etc. are just silly.

The thing is, you can't even discuss about this. There is not proven fact of anything happening after death.

Any discussion isn't really a discussion but more of a "You're wrong, i'm right" talk on this point.

It really isn't worth thinking about. Everybody has their own thoughts and all that'll happen is this will devolve into a massive free-for-all argument

((These will be at the bottom of my post until they fully mature, then they'll be removed ImageImageImageImage))
