Well, actually, it's for the more intelligent folks who have long realized that checking it frequently may actually be beneficial...

Hah, not me. After sitting in our campus's library for the past hour and a half waiting for my 1:00pm English 529 class to begin, I got tired of surfing forums and webcomics (educational, woot) and jumped on my e-mail.

Found out our professor sent us all an e-mail letting us know he has the stomach flu and things had been canceled for the day. He also sent this to us yesterday.

Rawr. Now I feel stoopid.

Edit:

Respond with pity and condolences please, as it is your obligation as forum trolls :3

last semester that happened in my art class that one I got...

however THIS semester it has happened twice where no one was in the room and I was like "CRAP class must have been canceled :(" ) I don't hang around though because if I am the only one there I figure it was canceled... everyone in my class is smarter than me apparently lol

Hahaha, that happened to me last semester! Except, the class was supposed to meet in a different location than usual so I met up with two other students who were looking for the class where it was supposed to be meeting. We ended up asking some staff in the Nuclear and Radiological Engineering office where the class was meeting and they sent us across campus. We found the classroom and peeked into the door, only to realize it was decidedly not our professor. So we walked all the way across campus again (UF has 50,000 students... it's a large campus) to the NRE building. We asked what was going on and they said that they heard us wrong and thought we said a different class.

I went back to my dorm and checked my email and lo and behold: Class canceled.

Therefore, I feel your pain! Condolence, condolence, condolence, and a dash of pity. :D

I haven't actually headed off for college yet, but I've already enrolled and gotten my campus email. I just set it up to forward to my normal email and forgot about it. xP

I'd like to forward my UWSP e-mail to my Yahoo - be able to block all the student gov't trash - but I've no idea how to do that through Outlook.

Also, I got home w/o killing any babies, :3

Our student email is a joke, to put it kindly, and only rarely lets me in to check it. Problem is "all official correspondences, including grades, are to come through email." oh fricking joy.

Gimmee my hotmail, anyday.

and hey, that's right up there with canceling class ten minutes after you left home to get there. Bad weather.

I wondered why the parking lot was so empty. So I got to drive home in rain and wind they wanted us NOT to be out in.

Campus email is the only way our professors communicate with us. We have other systems (Blackboard, if anyone uses it), but our webmail services are the best way. My professors usually don't cancel class -- at least they haven't this semester. Occasionally they just don't show up, but most of the time I get a day or two notice.
