More illegal immigrants are rushing to file taxes

Quote:
The New Bedford raid starkly illustrates the difference between the goals of the IRS and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Last March, federal immigration agents raided a leather-goods factory and arrested 361 illegal immigrants - many of whom also filed taxes. So a few weeks after federal immigration agents arrested the illegal immigrants, the IRS sent some of them refund checks.

This would seem to make it so that some illegal immigrants may not have broken any laws, as I can't actually find anything that makes undocumented immigration illegal.

Like there's a place on the IRS forms "are you an illegal immigrant"

and somebody's gonna actually mark it?

and can you imagine the hoopla somebody'd raise if the IRS broke code to keep the money?

...just as soon as I break into Canada.

Actually, it looks like the IRS has forms especially for illegal immigrants.
Isn't it weird that states are making hiring illegal immigrants illegal using the argument that they don't pay taxes, while the immigrants would have to "pay" payroll taxes if they were hired legally?

Ah, government bureaucracy.

Don't you just love it to death?

Nooo, the other forms are for LEGAL aliens. My uncle, who fought in Viet Nam and STILL has to carry his green card, fills it out every year.

My sister's boyfriend, who is as illegal as they come, fills the same form, using forged identification.

No, ITINs seem to be for anybody who can't qualify for SS numbers, such as foreign investors, and don't require you to forge info, as the IRS can't share it.
