Caught the press conferance last night before I went to bed.

6 dead, including the gunman.
it was a 'lightning assualt' (more or less a quote from the speaker) from the stage, with a shotgun and two handguns (maybe more, this was only the preliminary reports)

Thats at least four or five incidents since this time last year......yeesh.

Edit: Fourth one at a US school in a week? double yeesh.

Heard about it yesterday through campus e-mail, terrible. Makes you want to believe in Hell sometimes just so these [censored] get theirs.

I heard about it the other day. It's always to terrible when these things happen. Makes you wish guns weren't available in the public domain.

Heard about this roughly two hours after it happened. It's... personally shocking for me. My thoughts are with all the victims, and the gunman's family. From the sound of it, he quit taking his medications for a few weeks, and that may be what triggered this episode.

It is terrible, but you know things are getting out of had when you hear something like this and think.

"Oh, again?" Which I did.

is it just me or does it seem like these "suicide campus murderer" things are becoming a sort of fad? I don't mean to sound heartless but its like people with social or mental problems decide to kill themselves in style and take out as many on a campus as they can? horrible people

The fact that people think this kind of thing is sad. I'll admit, when I saw this thread, I thought the same thing. Kinda sad that this happens enough to numb people.

simple, imagine if campus police were armed...there'd be fewer victims, guaranteed.

Heh I'll agree with that one. It's just really gettin' out of hand, school was bad enough without havin' to worry about gettin' blown away outta nowhere. Glad I'm out of school, still have to worry about my girlfriend though, can't imagine havin' to deal with what these peoples friends/family go through when they get a call or see in the news that their loved ones school got shot up.

There'd also be more outrage. There was so much fuss over the kid who got tased here at UF... and he was only hit with a taser! He was fine.

But people still think he didn't deserve to have that level of force used against him. Campus police are used to druggies and drunks and protesters... they have short fuses and like to act first and ask questions later. I'd rather them not have guns, sorry. The possibility of wrongful deaths from overzealous police is far more frightening than from gunmen. Especially considering how many of these are simply a couple of murders followed by a suicide. The police don't have time to respond anyway.

The problem with arming campus police is that, as far as my experience go, the campus police aren't in the lecture halls or even the buildings. Our campus security consists of unarmed patrol officers, and they really only look out for psycho drivers or double-parked cars.

Arming campus cops wouldn't be effective unless you stuck one in each classroom, which wouldn't really be kosher with me.

Arm the professors.

Well, it took a principal running to his off campus car to get his gun to stop Columine,....could you find enough professors willing to carry?

Were there a way to keep guns out of a determined lawbreaker's hands, great. But ummm, if they don't care about the law in the first place, we're just creating easy pickings. If sheep had fangs too, wolves wouldn't bother with them.
eh well, that's my reasoning.

Another shoot out?
How the hell are these kids obtaining guns?
Columbine shooting, The Virginia tech shoot down, the Arkansas shoot off (Where a few kids thought it would be cool to shoot people), and know this (I am pretty sure there were more shoot outs).

Has it really come to this where people solve their anger problems by shooting people and killing themselves after they shot innocents?
