Simply?

Humanity over pollutes / pushes eachothers buttons to the point of Nuclear extinction. Leaning much more towards the Nuclear Extinction then anything else.

Otherwise, assuming flukes, rouge asteroid or ancient Mayan prophecies.

Why else do you think we aren't planning to go to the moon 'till 2015? Cost? Psh, it's to make sure Age finally claims the last of 'em (Assuming they never finished those experiments).

Grey goo theory is certainly the most frightening....being ripped apart molecular bond by molecular bond....yeesh.

Christianity belives that world will end with the second coming of Christ (technically its about a thousand years later with the final battle at Armageddon, but whose counting?)
