I never... want to see another Christmas tree lot ever again... mom took about 30-45 minutes looking for a good tree... Post your Holiday mishaps and screw ups =^_^=... I never knew how to roast chestnuts, so i didn't cut a slit into the sides of them... un-slitted chestnut= frag grenade...

We now have a sevenish foot fiber optic tree and only plastic decorations. No glass, not until little boy and little girl are past the tree climbing stage. Small children and glass ornaments = hospital trip waiting to happen.

Slits in the sides, huh. That might make a difference If i could ever remember i put them on to roast. I always wait too late to check them. Anyone need charcoal?

Well... not exactly a mishap or screw-up, but topical enough for this thread, I think. Sometime roundabouts my junior year in high school, my family took a trip out of town to visit my Grandparents for the weekend. When we got home, there was a card taped to our front door that just said "Merry Christmas" - signed by my aunt, uncle and younger cousin. Not thinking much of it, other than it was nice of them to drop it by in person, we opened the door.

Much to our surprise, they had wallpapered the entire wall and ceiling surface area of every room in the house with wrapping paper. I don't mean just hanging it so everything was covered, either. All of the patterns / stripes / designs were carefully aligned so that it looked like actual wallpaper.

After getting over the hilarious shock brought on by seeing that, we began to notice other details.

-All of the picture frames in the house had metallic red, green or gold paper carefully applied over the frame.
-The same paper was used to wrap the dining room table and all 4 chairs
-Every single kitchen utensil and piece of silverware - easily 200 pieces - in the drawers / cupboards had a red bow tied to it.
-All of the cables / cords in the entertainment center, computer desk and kitchen had been wrapped in silver tinsel.
-The major kitchen appliances had been wrapped to look like very large gift boxes.
-New red and green curtains had been hung inside every window (the previous ones were left up so that you couldn't see a difference from outside)
-The couch and both recliners had new slip covers to match the curtains.
-There was a candy-cane with a ribbon tied to it on every pillow.
-The dressers in every room had been wrapped - again very carefully so that the stripes on the drawers lined up with the stripes on the dresser itself.

I'm sure there was more, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head. All told, it took my aunt, uncle and cousin hours of work over two days to pull it off. When I stop in at my parents next weekend, I'll see if I can scan some of the pictures we took and post them up, because it really was that awesome.

Wise choice on the plastic ornaments =^_^= for me though, I still find someway to get injured while putting up a tree... OMG, I just remembered, instead of snowing here, it rains A LOT... so when i was still in the high school marching band, we had to march in the Honolulu City Lights Parade (i'll get pics of the lights in honolulu for you guys later) We thought that it was just cloudy and it wont bother us... we were wrong...

We got to the starting point at Aala Park, the rain was so thick it might as well have been fog, and the wind was nuts @_@ our hats went flying all over the place, and we were soaked, good thing is that we were required to have trash bags to put our instruments in case of these situations... We all got sick T_T

I had a little mishap last year. It was Christmas eve, and my grandmother was supposed to come over for dinner. My dad decided to go pick her up, while we all stayed with the rest of the family. We got a call about 30 minutes later from the hospital, saying that my grandmother had fallen down the stairs. We all rushed to the hospital, but they wouldn't let us see her. We stayed there all night, and our big Christmas dinner consisted on Wendy's burgers and fries. My grandmother was released the next day. She was OK, but she had some serious bruising. It's things like this which really make you realize how important family is.

I'm more than a little concerned about this holiday season. We lost my husband's mother over the summer, she was literally the glue that held his family together. Papa has already kabashed a couple of holiday getogethers, simply because it was too painful.

Oh, there'll be plenty of presents for the grandkids. Of that, I have no doubt, but as to my hubby's sanity and the others? Oh boy.

Holiday mishaps? that is my basic holiday seasion. First we have to get my tree out of the attic nocking at least 2 pictures off a wall on the way dawn. Then I put the lights up outside fall into a bush and find out that the out let is less than a foot away. Then there was shopping for family......I hate preparing for the holidays :x .

The last time I got a real tree was several years ago. Now my Christmas is just one big plastic celebration. I always loved getting a real tree even if it was freezing outside. A real tree just seems to get the holiday spirit so much higher.

Nyeh...so far this year I got shocked by a string of lights helpin' my folks do up their house since I don't mess with decorations at my place (Just isn't Christmas without gettin' myself fried in some way), and almost had the ladder tip on me twice in one day (never get a spotter whose distracted by sparkly/moving objects). Otherwise this year isn't too bad at all. Thinkin' I'm not gonna bother putting up a tree, have plenty in my yard.

Lol, I wish I had a yard, my dad still uses the big old lights, you know the ones that when they explode shrapnel flies and sounds like a firecracker =^_^= I had to pull a heavy nativity set from the attic and I got my hand pinned in the entrance... who knew something peaceful, cause a lot of pain...
