I've heard several stories similar to that, mostly all of kids sitting on those swimming pool drains (I was scared of those things ever since I was 6) but yeah it is horrible...

Ouch...that story is pretty intense. Many swimming pools are problems. Last year all the swimming pools in Montreal had to have a check to see if they were OK to swim in it. And another guy lost an arm with another pool.

They should be more careful...it's not only fun to play in them and they should put more security.

A few more simple safety precautions could easily have prevented this. Any pump that has that much power needs to have a large grate completely surrounding it. Better yet, if it were to be offset several feet below the bottom of the pool (having a covered tube leading to it), it would solve this problem.

They should've taken care for it.
But god how horrifying, even I can't stand the thought.

My father works pool maintainence and replaces pump units for pools all the time. I've been to work as an assistant with him and have seen some commercial developments use 2 to 3 pumps for a single pool or spa. Why? Because this saves them money on regular maintainence services. They don't have to normally have repairs done if one pump fails. Now why would multiple pumps be running? Well, for one, to keep the pools cleaner by creating extra circulation or perhaps the pool manager or an assistant did not know better and activated all the pumps. This could have been the reason why little Taylor had gotten into said incident. Believe me, pool managers aren't exactly the brightest people.

So does kitten Kunuki. she still is in critical condition and could still die. even the operation is iffy.

Kitten so hope that what ever her fate is that it's a kind one.

O_O
That whole news report has made me firmly stay in my drain-free, temporary pool for the remainder of my swimming days, and wonder why I ever did swimming as a sport.

Poor girl. Six years old too.

Why the HELL would something that dangerous be left uncovered?! Why does it need to be that strong anyway? What does it suck out, boulders?
