This is my first taste of McCarthy's novels and it's by far the best story I've read in a long time. If you have seven bucks you're not too attached to, jump on Amazon and buy this book. But beware, it isn't your pulp-fiction apocalyptic novel.
The book revolves around a father and his son as they try to make their way to the charred remains of America to the eastern coast. They don't know what they will find, nor if they will survive. Food is extremely (I don't mean this lightly, this book makes you feel emaciated) difficult to come by, and humanity itself seems all but near extinction. Cannibalistic nomads roam the interstates in search of food and the two come across more than anyone's fair share of atrocities.
This isn't a happy story, but it's likely the most touching.
