already seen this. Some companies are against it and I personally do not think it will happen. If it does any company that does not limit the web will get a surge in customers. If Comcast/Cox does through with it....im gonna get my cellphone and add a tethering plan. Either that or move over to a cell company's web and sign up with them. I head cell companys are going to leave it open. If companies really want to make money that bad, do what i read is happening in Europe....Make us pay by the GB. Like sign up for a 5 GB plan...if you go over you pay $10 per GB. It will suck but that would be a better idea. And sure unlimited web would go away (T_T) but atleast they could sell upper limits of something like a monthly bandwith of 250GB...They would still make money and we would not have to worry.

Meh, it can't happen.

If one company does that, it loses all paying customers and goes bankrupt.

End of the story.

but if every company does it at the same time...then everyone is screwed. Sure there will be a few that dont but if most every company does then what Demus? I think my cell plan will be the next jump...me and my dad's phone can teather so that may happen I think it will kill off a few companies and the ones that stay neutral will get a jump in customers.

Every company together? Ha, highly unlikely. And even if it was to happen, all the customers would jump to the smaller companies, making the big ones bankrupt - again.

Also, if it happens, it unavoidably leads to "death of internet" - which big companies don't want. Why would they? It's a major route for free (or not-so-free) commercial.

Edit: Also, isn't this tech board stuff?

my first thought was: "maybe this is the end of the world mayans predicted?" I dunno, it's all so apocalyptic and a huge coincidence.

Someone I heard on the radio a long time ago summed stuff like this up well.

To paraphrase him, the internet is like a giant fungus, and it interprets censorship as damage. And then routes around it or blows right through it. So if one company does it, than people will stop using that company. They can't have all the sites someone would want covered, and so people would leave for a more open ISP.

You can't stop the internet with laws or business practices. You just can't.
