I have started a new phpbb forum for the first time and am mildly overwhelmed by the interface. I need to set down some rules for the users, then put in some cool mods (because if it's not modded, it's not the internets). I need help on both these aspects, and would greatly appreciate help

What version are you rolling with? In my opinion, phpBB3 is superior in virtually every way, but the administration is much more complex and in depth than phpBB2, so we'd be best off just explaining the one you're using.

I just signed up for a domain at __.freeforums.org, not sure which version is default. If I am using an older version, I would certainly like to upgrade.

Okay, freeforums.org are running phpBB2 at the moment, though it sounds like they'll update to phpBB3 soon (I'm running a phpBB3beta5 system myself, and phpBB just rolled the release of phpBB3 very very recently; I'm going to have to update myself). It's been a couple years since I did any administering of a phpBB2 system, so I'm not sure how much use I'll be until you get updated. Specific questions I might be able to answer, but you'd be better off getting notes from somebody who's running an active phpBB2 system for the time being. Maybe one of our own admins will drop by and be able to fill you in.

I guess I will look forward to the update then! In the meantime, I need to post a sticky with forum rules like warning against double posting and such, I will work on a draft when I get on winter break and any suggestions would rock.

Thanks again for your time
