Okay, the problem was that your Toshiba Satellite's ACPI isn't Linux-compatible, so we had to turn ACPI support off.

You want to edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst file and add
Code:
acpi=off irqpoll
to the end of the "kernel" line. This is just the first kernel line, it's probably the fifth line of the file (counting blank lines). Very similar to what you have here, but only add those options -- don't change any of the other options in the file.

Wait, new problem!

Okay, messing around, and the Sound DOES work

Just not for headphones...

EDIT EDIT EDIT....

Okay!

Now, Sound DOES work for the speakers, and when I plug in the headphones, I get a second of sound from the headphones, before they cut off, and decide not to work.

Okay, since sound works on your speakers, check your mixer. See if there's a separate slider for "Headphones" and make sure that it both is set to a useful level and is not muted.

If you jiggle the jack in the headphone plug, or hold it in firmly, does the sound come back, or does it stay cut out?

Stays out

Also on another note for later, whenever a video, such as Youtube is running it'll lag out text...Maybe I should go back to LM4

Okay, update!

I went back to LM4, and did the run through for headphones, less laggy and all.

But the update lock...thing is nothing but error.

I don't even know what you're talking about now. Can you go into more detail?

You're going to have to find somebody familiar with Mint for help with that, I'm afraid. I spend enough time wishing apt-get was more like emerge (and that yum would die in a fire). I don't know how any of that works with Mint, except that it's probably a GUI wrapper for apt. *shrug*

Well, Mint is mostly just Ubuntu

That's why I said it's probably a GUI wrapper for apt, since Mint is a flavor of Ubuntu and Ubuntu is derived from Debian. But that only gives me very vague familiarity with it; my Debian systems don't get much in the way of updates because I get a phone call if either of them stops working for more than three minutes. I just don't know enough to be useful. If you were using apt-get, I might be able to help you (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade updates all the packages on your system), but that's about it.

For Pidgin and Firefox I'm trying to use Apt-get update

For the system, it's something else I'll have my Ubuntu-Mint Guru-in-training buddy to help.

And it doesn't just work? It doesn't just build a list of packages to update and give you the option to say 'Y' or 'N' and let it go?
