Has anyone tried it yet? I downloaded it last night. Still some bugs, and no StumbleUpon yet, but it's amazingly fast most of the time and uses a hell of a lot less memory than Firefox. As soon as an SU plugin/toolbar is created for it, it will probably be replacing FF as my main browser.

Using it now, it seems a bit... too minimal really. The tabs opening as separate processes is a nice touch, so if one tab is bad it doesn't kill the browser, and a built in Task Manager is another nice touch. The only problem I have with it so far is a bug: when I start a new line in a text box because the word is too long the start of the word disappears unless I make a spelling mistake o..o, and sometimes the spell checker wont offer me any options to fix an error... a problem when you're dyslexic ^^;

Lack of plug ins for this is still keeping firefox as my default (I want my downthemall damnit!), but it's a promising start!

*EDIT* Nail in the coffin for now: No java. That means no Oekaki, which means no thanks for now.

It's way faster, which is the big thing I hate about Firefox. Which is why it will rank higher with me as soon as bugs get fixed and an SU plugin is made. :P

Being an early adopter is so much more fun with open source software. xD

That's the point. It's supposed to be a no frills browser that does one thing: browse.
I personally like it, especially the Opera Speed Dial-like main page. Another plus is the tabs, the ability to make them into their own windows is invaluable. It's not without its flaws though. I'm not that big of a fan of the Blue GNOME/KDE style, the lack of Java is crippling and at this point I'm wondering if there will be a stumbleupon toolbar because of Google's minimalistic approach. But you have to take into account that this is the first release, my guess being that Java will be in the next update along with some options for customization.
I agree with Delusional, once Stumbleupon is in the mix, it'll be replacing FF.

I realise that's the point, and I also would like to say the absolute safety from Mal/Spyware is very comforting, as is the popup system, but I still would prefer a few more buttons, just to ease me in to the whole thing >..>

It is wonderfully fast, and I like the overall design of the browser. It's hard to tell how much memory it's actually using up, though, since each tab is a different process in the Task Manager window.

Once they buggering decide to replace their EULA with one that's not copy/pasted from GoogleDocs, then I might consider installing it. Until then, I'm not touching it with a ten-foot pole.

Every single google ap has the same EULA.

To be honest I trust google enough to not steal what is mine.

And that's the difference between you and I. I trust Google not at all.

An EULA that is poorly worded enough to imply that anything you look at or upload using the browser is given to Google to do whatever they see fit with it, including selling it to other people, and stating that you agree that, no matter what it is, you claim to have the right to give them that license, is an EULA for something I want no part of. It's not that hard to make sure that your EULA is reasonably written. I don't like it as a part of most Google apps, but at least it makes sense for them -- for Chrome, the EULA has parts that are clear nonsense.

-- The point --
However, is that it's not stealing. If it were "stealing what is yours" then you could take Google to court. This EULA says that you give them permission to take what is yours and do anything they want with it, without asking you further permission or paying you in any way. It's worse than theft. It's like the contracts Thief has the rest of the Light Warriors sign in 8-Bit Theater. Legally, you're willingly giving them everything. And that's where I get creeped out and worried. Sure, they don't do anything but mine it for data to make better targeted advertisements right now, but they've clearly left all their options open.

Yay! Someplace that is actually willing to discuss Chrome's evil EULA.

I uninstalled Chrome after I read through it. I'm fine with them using my stuff on Gmail or whatever. But not the stuff I do around the web like my blogs or any content I create.

EDIT: It appears they changed the EULA a while ago.

CNET News: Update: As of 2 p.m. PT, it looks like the terms have changed. Section 11 now reads simply: "11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."

I'd read that the changes were going to be forthcoming. I'm glad they got around to changing it quickly. It's rather embarrassing that they'd do that; either it's a boneheaded mistake or it's a malicious trick they hoped nobody would catch. Either way they wouldn't be the first to have attempted crap like that, but it still doesn't speak well of them. It's not like this is a "spare time" project, like the facial recognition features of Google Image Search.

Might check it out soon then, just for the sake of work at least. I find it unlikely that it'll oust either IE or Firefox for my choice of browser, mostly because I really happen to like IE and I'm pessimistic about getting a debugger as good as Firebug. But we'll see. Maybe they'll update their WebKit too, so it's not vulnerable to an old Safari bug. :P (Thanks to the "Carpet Bombing" bug, a lot of workplaces currently have Chrome banned, so I imagine they're putting some effort on getting that fixed too.)

Issue with front end java has a work around already, seems chrome's V8 engine uses Java10.lotsanumbers, and as such isn't pre installed as part of the machine. For some reason chrome doesn't point this out, so you have to manually install.

More info here.

I had a blog entryon Chrome.

Rendering-wise, it's identical to Safari, down to unable to scroll SVG files... with the exception that it uses ClearType instead of Safari's built-in renderer.

But Chrome feels more Aero than IE with its light and clear interface.

Oh yeah, using a ToS instead of an EULA is pretty weird too.
