Right, I've decided to give my computer a true upgrade, rather than the usual "throw another fan in it and call it better, hu-hurrr!" I'm mainly looking for a new processor and video card for both my computers. My first computer is a modified HP Pavilion 9680C (which was designed for Windows 98):

Processor: Pentium III 650 Mhz (Slot 1)
Video Cards: NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro (AGP 4X), ATI Rage 128 PRO (PCI)

The second computer is a little newer, a modified Gateway of some kind designed for Windows ME:

Processor: Pentium III 930 Mhz (Socket 370, A.K.A. PGA370)
Video Cards: ATI Radeon 7500 (AGP 4X/8X), ATI Radeon 7000 (PCI)

Old, I know, but I don't have a fortune to spend on a new computer. I need to replace all of the above, but I can't afford to get new motherboards or cases. So, the above connections (in parenthesis) are what I'm limited to. Any suggestions? Price isn't a problem when it comes to what I can replace, as I can probably find a good one on Ebay, I just want a good idea of what I should be looking for. |D

Hate to say it, but if your computer was modeled after parts with those specs, the motherboard may simply be your largest adversary for an upgrade. In all honesty, I would just save up for a complete overhaul rather than patch-patch-patch. In the long run you're going to spend more money putting new parts in an old computer than you would just building a new computer once and letting that last you several years.

Well, Personally I have(and love) a Nvidia FX5950 Ultra - Apparently its less powerful than comparable ATI cards of the time, however, from what I have personally seen, its very powerful, and works great. Its an AGP 8x card, and you should be able to get one for $25 now. http://cgi.ebay.com/NVIDIA-ASYLUM-GEFOR ... 286.c0.m14

Although, with your setup, you could probably build a low-end machine for $200 that would be twice as fast...
